    3. I have several Archibald Campbells from the 1600s but cannot pinpoint dates of birth. The births I have make them too old for their parents! Have been trying to get more info but no one seems to have any info on the Campbells of the 1600s. The one I have that is the closest to 1685 would be the third child out of eight of James Campbell, Sir and Susan Campbell, Lady. He was born in Auchinbreck, Argyll, Scotland. I have ancestry if this happens to be the one you are looking for. I do not have any other info on this Archibald such as spouse or descendants. His younger sister Mary Campbell, Lady 1690-1742 is my direct ancestor. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mark Barker" <barkerma@absamail.co.za> To: <CAMPBELL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 08, 2006 3:42 AM Subject: [CAMPBELL] CAMPBELL ARCHIEBALD CAMPELL - SCOTLAND > > > Can anyone give me more info on one Archibald CAMPBELL, born abt 1685 > married Mary Noteman. 3. In regard to your Mary Campbell, I also have a Mary b 1721 in Galston, Ayr, Scotland. The family came to America and settled in Connecticut in the 1700's. Your mention of Conn was what interested me. Part of the family also settled in Ohio. She was the daughter of Hugh Campbell and Mary Patterson. and one of nine children. I do not find anything between Scotland and Connecticut as to ships, dates or departure port. Maybe we could connect our two Mary's. 2. Hello List Members, I have recently come into possession of my Grand father's (Isaac S Allen) year book for the 1925 graduating class of Bridgeton High School, Bridgeton, NJ. There are pictures and signatures for 99% of Senior's in the book as well as much more info on each and every one of them. If you have a relative listed below please contact me ( _KAllen5206@aol.com_ (mailto:KAllen5206@aol.com) ) and I can scan the person's picture as well as signature for you and any other info I can find on them in the book. The names below are in the order they appear in the book, so check carefully for whom you seek. The address of most Senior's is also listed. The Senior's were mostly in Bridgeton, but some are listed as from Norma, Cedarville, Newport, Rosenhayn, Greenwich, Carmel, Deerfield, Millville, Centerton, Elmer and Vineland as well. 3. Buck & others, Buck, I am sure you will remember several years ago when we were deep into the Ramsey research, we found some old information that 2 of the daughters of William & Catherine Ramsey were Indians named Raintree who changed their name to Ramsey. No one was ever able to explain why the other 7 children of William were not Indians named Raintree as well. Anyway, with marriage records, census records and other legal records I believe that we disproved that myth, at least to my satisfaction. 3. You told Margie your Campbells were in KY, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. Perhaps there is a connection with my Campbells. My g-grandfather Wiley or Wylie Campbell was supposed to have been born near Vincennes, Indiana on the Wabash River in 1846. I have no idea who his parents or siblings were, but the brothers were supposed to have fought on opposite sides in the Civil War. Some family members say they were told the brothers who came from Ireland via Scotland landed in NY. One stayed there, one went perhaps to PA, and ours roamed. My brother is participating in the Campbell DNA project and is an exact match to John Campbell of VA who married Grace Hay. Wiley married Sarah Williams who was born in Alabama. His sons were Milton Anderson (Andy), Joseph, Grant, Elmer Lee (Lee). His daughters were Margaret Elizabeth (Lizzie) and Agnes. Wiley P. Campbell was born in Indiana at about the right time, but I haven't been able to connect him up. If someone in that family is participating in the DNA project, that might tell whether he is my Wiley. I would be grateful for any suggestions. Lee Ann Dauphinot

    1. Ambrose Campbell
    2. Hi Steven and other researchers; I've posted numerous times on this site the informaton for my 4th GGrandfather, Ambrose Campbell, son of Henry & Charity. Ambrose was b. in Scotland in 1740 and died in Nelson Co., VA in 1811, that part of Amherst Co which became Nelson Co in 1809. His wife's name was Margaret ? according to his will, and his sons were Peter and Tandy. His daughters were Polly (Page), Rachel (Ennis or Innis), Frances (Ennis or Innis), Sally (Mills), Elizabeth (Mays) and Lucy Campbell. Polly was deceased at the timeof the will and her children (6) inherited her share. Ambrose "came of age" in 1761 in Amherst Co, and served in the Rev. War at Yorktown. He was a tobacco grower. Ambrose lived next to the Glebe in Amherst/Nelson Co, VA and was a neighbor of George Campbell's. His son Tandy Campbell (b. 1780) was my 3rd Ggrandfather, and he married Mary Ann (Polly) Wright in 1805 in Amherst. Tandy and Mary Ann moved to KY after Tandy served in the war of 1812, and in 1830 moved to Lafayett! e Co., MO where Tandy died in 1845, and Mary Ann in 1855. Hope this answers some of your questions regarding this particular Ambrose Campbell. Phyllis in CA

    1. Re: Ramsey
    2. Hi, I was in the Nelson Co, VA, USA Courthouse today digging around and found a note in the #1 Marriage register that the name Ramsey had been "changed from the Indian name of Raintree". How interesting! Bonnie <><

    2. Margie Campbell
    3. Hi Marvin Just checking in after arriving in TX... sorry, but I have no other information on the NJ Campbell'sbut that which I submitted to the mail list. My dsl will be hooked up next Tuesday (delay in getting furniture here). Once I get the dsl here I will start my research again. I hope to follow the NJ Campbell's to see where they end up. I do know that in 1852 or 1853, Nancy Clawson Campbell was at a family reunion in NY where her daughter Letitia was living ( Brooklyn newspaper story on the reunion Feb 4, 1852-3...have to get my files here to get the date). I have never found a copy of this article.. it is listed in a DAR application. There was a strong tie between the Dr. Melanctom Freeman family of Metuchen NJ & Ellis R Campbell family. Just not sure what it was, know the two families intermarried a few times. By next Tuesday, my new email will be margecam52@valornet.com I will post anything I find on the Campbell list. Marge ----Original Message Follows---- From: "Marvin" <marv3@redrivernet.com> To: "Margie Campbell" <margecam52@msn.com> Subject: Ellis Campbell Date: Fri, 30 Dec 2005 09:15:08 -0700 Margie, Below is the tax list from Allegheny co, PA. I'm wondering if Ellis had any connection to the Campbell's listed here. These Campbell's were living near the Hull and Rardin families who came from Middlesex co, NJ to Harris Ferry (now Harrisburg) and then to near Pittsburg then to Campbell county, KY and southern OH. My Campbell's were from Campbell co, KY. to OH to IN and IL. You show a Matthew Campbell as a son of Ellis. Could this be the Matthew Campbell who was one of the first settlers in the Cincinnati area who moved to Harrison co, KY where he died in 1819 ?? I haven't been able to prove if this is my John Campbell listed in St Clair Twp who was married to Mary "Polly" Rardin but have a strong suspicion it is. Mary Rardin's mother (Massie Hull) died in 1836 and her father (John Rardin Jr) died in 1835, both in Pendleton co, KY. I have the history of how they came down the Ohio river on flat bottom boats to OH and KY. I have lost my John Campbell somewhere near Campbell co, KY but have record of one of his sons living in Carthage, Campbell co, KY. Marvin PS I don't know what the numbers behind the names mean. There was no explanation on the list. Allegheny co, PA Tax List 1791, Elizabeth Twp. Rardin, William, 1 .9 Rardin, John, 2 .7 Hull, Benjamin, 10 Allegheny co, PA Tax List 1791, Moon Twp Campbell, Arthur, .5 Campbell, Joseph, 4 .2 Campbell, William Allegheny co, PA Tax List 1791, St. Clair Twp Campbell, John, 2 .8 .6
