This John Price Posey was related to one of my late brother in laws. CUZ AT New Kent County Records The Colonial Records of New Kent County were destroyed by a fire in 1787, which was set by John Price Posey, for which he was hanged. It was the greatest loss suffered because the early records of many counties were in the New Kent Clerk's Office: King and Queen, 1654-1691; King William County, 1654 to 1691; Hanover County, 1654 to 1721; Louisa County, 1654 to 1728; and part of Caroline County, 1654 to 1691. (Caroline Co., Va. was formed in 1728 from Essex, King and Queen, and King William Counties. King and Queen Co., Va. was formed from New Kent Co., Va. in 1691, and King William Co., Va. was formed in 1702 from King and Queen Co., VA.) The records for New Kent between 1787 and 1864 were burned at the time the village of New Kent Courthouse suffered a disastrous fire. I am looking for any info, guidance and help on my Campbell ancestors. I know my great grandfather, Donald Charles McGregor Campbell (1861 - 1936) was born in Ardchattan, Argyll, Scotland and died in London, Ontario. His father was also Donald Charles McGregor Campbell (1815-1888) was born in Kinloch Rannoch, Fortingall and died in Rhugarve, Barcaldine. His father was Duncan Campbell believed born about 1776 but location unknown. Duncan's father was John Campbell. John's father was John "Iain Og" Campbell. Father of John "Iain Og" was also John. Father of this John was Donald "Bahn". Father of Donald "Bahn" was John "Dubh" Campbell. All names past my great grandfather is taken from his will. It appears that the names used follow Scottish tradition which means that my ancestors were probably the oldest male child in most cases. I do not know the name of the ship that brought them out, where it sailed from nor the date of emigration. I have been able to locate some descendants of my great grandfather's siblings in Canada and the US but no one know any more beyond the information above. Can anyone help me fill in the blanks regarding spouses, dates, locations, etc.?

Suzanne - Welcome! I have some Campbells from Creich, but if they are related to yours I cannot figure out how. My Campbells moved there around 1860, so if there is a relation it is likely as "cousins" of some sort. My great-grandfather Donald Campbell was born in Pulrossie, Bonar, Creich in 1860. His father Hugh Campbell, Jr. was born in Durness, Sutherland, in 1821. HIS father, Hugh Campbell, Sr., married in the Durness area, but was originally from somewhere in the shire of Ayr. I have not been able to make a connection as to where. The names Robert, John, and William do occur in my Campbell line, but that is hardly surprising, as they are so common. Hello everyone, I'm new to this group. Glad to have found it! I'm researching my maternal grandfather's family. His name was George Campbell, born 1889 in England. His father, Robert Campbell (b. 1853) was born in Bonar Village and it would seem that the family originated from there. I also have Robert's father: George Campbell (b. 1823), grandfather: John Campbell (b. 1773) and great-grandfather: William Campbell (b. ?). James Campbell continued to live in Caroline County, and in 1768, was appointed the overseer of the road, “from the road by Mr. Stevens to Conway’s Warehouse.” He was probably living on land that had been his father’s and in St. Mary’s Parish. James must have died in early 1786, for his will was recorded on February 9th. Thomas Buckner was named the executor of his estate and Francis Buckner, Charles Holloway, Augustine Terrell and James Mill were appointed to appraise the estate. James Campbell was reported to have owned 535 acres in the land tax records of 1787. The land was transferred the following year to M. Standley and then, in 1789, to William Dabney. Duz AT; I don’t see the old post you mention but I am sure that it is regarding the 3 Moses Campbells that lived and died in Bedford County. I AGREE One came from Scotland through august County; one was born there in Bedford County in 1740 and then the DNA Moses Campbell who moved from Amherst county to Bedford county in 1787 and died there in 1792. The other problem we had......regarding Grandmother Caty Campbell. Yes, she may be a native American descendant or may even be mixed with some other blood line. Regards BH.
