Vintage new years postcards, maybe your ancestors sent one like these http://www.twogatos.com/vintage/new-year Happy new year!
When I lived in NY, they would send a group of 'inmates' out with someone from the jail- on a good day- they'd cut down bush, small trees, etc- clean up around the headstones, so you could see them better. Many's the 'hole' I stepped into, looking for my ancestors. Cuz AT As a certified country bumpkin, living in the rural South, I have a little experience in the maintaining and reclaiming of old burial grounds. We have used Crossbow and Remedy and a couple of other selective herbicides. The easiest thing to do is spray the briers and small shrubs and after they die off, clean up what ever else you want to be rid of. Get the local Co op "expert" to aid in what is legal and effective in the location that you are cleaning. Using Roundup only opens the door to things you might not want to try and control later. Most areas require a licensed applicator if you pay to have it done. Just get someone to do it without charging and you will be in good shape. The woody plants should have been sprayed just before the first frost for best results but you can get some control if you spray after all the leaves are fully emerged. Once you clear out the ones you want gone, fertilize and introduce the plants that you want to take over. Larry
Hi: I don't find it so unusual to think goats could clean up the cemetery. We in California have lots of brush on the hills and so they hire a shepherd, with his sheep, to stay on the property as long as it takes for the sheep to clean up the brush. The shepherd and his dog stay on the property night and day. He brings a tent or a little structure to live in. I agree, Cuz A.T. I cry every time I see "Find my Family." My daughter's birth family name is Campbell, and she finally a few years ago asked me to help her find her birth family. We did find them. Her birth mother died before she could meet her, but her birth step father has become a permanent fixture in her life. And she has many, many Campbell cousins in Nevada, California and Missouri. The name of her birth father died with her birth mother. Happy Holidays and a very Happy New Year to you. Hi Martha! You've made my day! This is the closest possibility we've had. How did we miss it? I have a cousin who's even been to Marion County researching. Thank you so much. Will forward this to my group of cousins who are as intrigued with the mystery of Julia as I am. Armed with the info you sent and all our family info and lore we may be able to determine that this is OUR Julia. Thanks again, Laura
Will add him to our church prayer list, AT. Laura
