Does anyone have any information on Matthew Campbell who resided in Baltimore Co., MD in the 1820 census? I believe he could have been the father of Nancy Campbell born ca 1778 but have not been able to find proof of this. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you Nancy Knight San Diego, CA
We believe that James and Mattie probably had a large family and that some of his family is still probably living somewhere in Arkansas if we could just find them. My father is a half brother of this James and we know James would be dead by now. My father is from James Mehlander’s second marriage and my father is now past 87 years old, and the only one left of the family of this generation. Some time papa wonders if the T.V. Star Glen Campbell could be a descendant of the older Jim Campbell. Many people think we resemble, and our family too are musically inclined and when I was at home we played music together. James and Alma played guitar and Leslie played mandolin and guitar. I played organ or piano. I also play accordion some. I hope to meet some of Glen Campbell’s folk sometime, talk over our genealogy records and see if we can trace relationship. My father had an uncle Wesley Campbell who was also the older Jim Campbell’s Uncle. Hello List, I have some more information about some of Alexander and Agnes Campbell nee Kelly children. After 1851, Alexander and Agnes Campbell moved from Wigtownshire to Dunbartonshire along with most of their children. I have not been able to find what happened to William Campbell born 1 March 1839 he was the twin brother of Gilbert Campbell. Hugh Campbell son of Alexander and Agnes married Elizabeth Cunningham on the 12 March 1869 in Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne, England. They had one daughter named Margaret born in Northumberland in 1869 before they returned to start their life in Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. Then they went on to have seven more children. These are their details below Alexander Campbell born 6 June 1871 at 2, College Street, Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. He died 24 April 1872 at College Street. William Cunningham Campbell born 21 April 1873 High Street, Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. Jeanie/Jean Campbell born 27 April 1875 Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. Hugh Campbell born 1877 Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. Alexander Cunningham Campbell born 1879 at 7, Burnside Place, Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. John Campbell born 1882 at 7, Burnside Place, Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. Thomas Campbell born 1888 at 7, Burnside Place, Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. Hugh and Elizabeth Campbell's daughter Margaret married John Young 31 December 1889 at 7, Burnside Place, Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. William Cunningham Campbell married Agnes Shaw 30 December 1898 at 4, Burnside Place, Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. Jeanie/Jane Campbell married Andrew Mitchell 30 August 1901 At 14, Burnside Terrace, Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. Hugh Campbell Junior married Elizabeth Jane Watson on 9 June 1905 at Knoxland Parish Church, Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. John Campbell married Mary McKinlay Shanks on 2 September 1910 At 147, Glasgow Rd, Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. Thomas Campbell married Helen Morrison on 15 October 1915 At Parish Church Manse, Kirkinton Hill, Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. I think Alexander Cunningham Campbell must have died between the 1881 and 1891 census at 7, Burnside Place, Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. Thank you in advance for any more information I might receive. Kind Regards Pamela J Groves

Hi Kathleen Good to hear from you. James CAMPBELL's parents' names mean nothing to me. My people were all on Islay, an island on the west coast of Scotland. Glad you have them. Paper records that far back are rare. It is said that my man, Dugald's 6 uncles all served in the British army and were rewarded with land. Dugald was supposed to return to Scotland to claim his in heritance but died before he could make the journey. His parents died when he was young so he was "raised by strangers". He married Anne KEITH 21 Nov 1829. They immigrated to Canada in 1832. That's all I have. Hope you have a few more details on your people. Hello Malcolm, Rescobie is in Angus, Scotland. His parents were James (Sr) and Agnes Frazer. James Campbell Sr.,would have been involved in the '45 in some way. I'm not sure if there is a connection in Grey County. I'm trying to find my Campbell descendants that came to Canada and am not having much luck. Other surnames in my tree are: Smith, Moonlight, Dunsmuir, Cuthbertson just to name a few. Any ring a bell? AT, am sorry to hear of your wife's injury. These fractures are something to worry about at our age. With my osteoporosis, Friday I found out that I fractured my left foot and am back on crutches. I have faith that things will go well with her rehab, with all of the Campbell prayers you can't lose, I wonder what ole Saint Peter thinks when the Campbell prayers start coming in (just joking). You and your wife are both in my prayers, how long will she be in rehab? Take care of yourself, we all need you, your knowledge of our genealogy and your encouragement. Mary Ellen
