    3. Is the father of Robert WHITE named Thomas WHITE? Thomas White was also known as Tomas BLANCO. He owned one of the smallest land grants in Monterey County. During the late 1800s, there was a post office at Blanco (1873-1941). >From Monterey County Place Names: Tom White, who deserted ship in Monterey in 1840, and who was known as Tomas Blanco to his Spanish-speaking neighbors, received on August 24, 1844, a small grant on Salinas River. His place became known as Blanco Crossing, and in the Fall of 1872 the name was given to the Southern Pacific Station. Thomas White, or Tomas Blanco, died around 1850. In 1886 Blanco was "a small town of 100 inhabitants." Today nothing exists of the post office, school, or general store that once existed at the intersection of Blanco Road and Cooper Road.
