    1. [CAMONTER-L] Single women owning land?
    2. Here's a puzzler.... According to the information disseminated to California school children, the initial constitution ratified by California included the law that only white men and married women could own land or property. However, we know that women in our family whom we believe were unmarried, received "official" papers giving them ownership of their land. These papers date from 1854. Does anyone know if the law had changed by then, or if it was never enforced? There's no mention on the title about the women's status (although current property titles do note whether individuals are married or unmarried). Mary Feliz
