Southern of Salinas died Wednesday at Casa Serena Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Hospital. She was 79. Born March 14, 1920 in Rankin, Okla., Ms. Southern had lived in Salinas for more than 30 years. She worked as a labeler at Garin Company in Salinas for 15 years starting in 1950. In 1965, she moved to Los Angeles, where she spent and few years and later returned to Salinas in 1974. More recently, she was a homemaker and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Ms. Southern is survived by two sons, Everett Myers of Gardena and Donald Myers of Salinas; one daughter, Faye Adams-Lopez of Hawthorne; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Whitehurst-Muller Chapel today between 1 and 9 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories.
