Briggs, Hollister. She passed away in a hospital there yesterday following a brief illness. Grand officers of the lodge will conduct rites in the George L. Grunnagle mortuary, Hollister, at 3 p.m. tomorrow. Members of Copa de Oro NDGW, Hollister, will officiate at memorial rites in that chapel Thursday at 3 p.m. Private inurnment will follow in Hollister. Mrs. Briggs was a member of a pioneer San Benito country family. She was born in Hollister, daughter of the late William and Delia Johnson. Following her graduation from San Jose Normal school she taught for two years in Hollister grammar school and two more in the Enterprise school. She then went into Coast Counties Gas and Electric company offices to work for 15 years. Generous with her gifts, Mrs. Briggs helped to found the Native Daughters children's foundation, contributed the first $100, and has added a like amount each succeeding year. She also was a member of the Copa de Oro circle, N. D. G. W., for 51 years, was grand president of grand parlor N.D.G.W. in 1921; first secretary of the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce, organized the Hollister Women's club in 1914, and was a charter member of the Hollister Business and Professional Woman's club, instituted in 1926 and served three terms as president. She was a past president of Copa de Oro club. She instituted three parlors for the N. D. G. W. in California--the Pioneers in Plymouth county, the Far West club in Yuba county and Lomitos parlor in Los Banos. Mrs. Briggs also organized the Girl Scouts in Hollister and served as treasurer for 40 years. Two scholarships were donated by her to San Benito college, and she gave an electric organ to the Hollister Methodist church. Old Hazel Hawkins hospital benefited from her gifts with a completed stand-by electric plant. For the new hospital by that name she endowed a room. She provided two dogs for the Seeing Eye foundation. Mrs. Briggs also held membership and was a past worthy matron of Ivy chapter No, 29, Order of Eastern Star in San Francisco.
