Hi Everyone, Sometime back I saw requests for information about the McMenamin surname. THe following excerpts appeared in today's [Friday, April 14, 2000] "The Monterey County Herald": Actor Emmett dies in N.Y. Born McMenamin in Monterey, his wife was also an actress Robert EMMETT, born Robert McMENAMIN and known during his screen and stage career as Bob Emmett, died Satrday, April 8, after surgery for acute appendicitas at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City. He was 78. At the time of his death, Emmett lived with his wife, the actress Kim Hunter in the Greenwich Village apartment they occupied since the birth of their son, Sean, in 1954. They were married in 1951, after meeting as actors in the road company of "Two Blind Mice," starring Melvyn Douglas. A playwright and actor with many television credits, Emmett is perhaps best known as the head writer for the 1962-63 Emmy award-winning satirical television news show "That Was The Week That Was." The son of former Monterey Mayor and longtime Monterey County clerk, Emmett McMenamin, he was born Sept. 28, 1921, in Monterey. In changing his name for the theater he chose his fsther's first name as his surname, something his brother GEORGE had done when he was in radio. Emmett is survived by his wife, Kim Hunter; two children, Kathryn and Sean emmett, both of Stamford, Conn.; six grandchildren; and a brother, Emmett McMenamin Jr. of Del Ray Oaks [CA]. NOTE: The obituary details Emmett's entire educational, military, and professional career. If anyone is interested in the entire obituary, with photo, let me know. Hope this helps someone, Anita C.
