Married by Wilson Whitlock, residence Jolon, Justice; recorded 29 March 1886. No date; no location; Sturzingger {as spelled}, F. to Rachel Swanson; recorded 8 October 1887. The last extract above is as written in the Index. It was the last entry under the letter "S" in the Index. +++++++++++ Here is a quote from "The Lands of Mission San Miguel", by Wallace V. Ohles, regarding Mariano Gil (whose family has a long history in this area), who married Louise Sturzenegger. Sorry, I don't have the rest of the index to this book handy. P. 289: Lt. Col. Vivian N. Scott wrote for "The Dispatch", a newspaper printed at Camp Roberts. Under the date of January 21, 1944, he related the following story by Mariano Gil, who had been born in 1853; the following would have taken place about the year 1861. "I was about eight years old when my aunt came to San Miguel for several days visit and we stayed at the adobe house of Rios. Guests, due to long distance and slow conveyance, usually stayed a week or two while visiting in the pioneer days. "The parties always conceived in their honor were extremely convivial affairs---hilarious, very often. Dancing was the order every evening with it being a common understanding that all of the entire community were invited to attend at will. Dancing continued all night long if it was the pleasure of the party. "On this particular visit, I had a most memorable experience; I found myself an unsolicited job. Music for dancing at this time was provided at the Rios House by an old grind-organ. I was just big enough successfully to wind the crank, which operated the bellows to provide air to make the organ go. "I successfully cranked for what seemed to me interminable hours, but after a while I got tired and dozed off to sleep---but not for long, for a resounding thump on my head woke me up. "I was so tired and I presume I didn't even respond to thumps, for I next recall awakening in bed next morning. I also recall how much joking there was over my cranking and thumping." ++++++++++++ --Sheila P. Subj: A BIG THANK YOU!!!!! Date: 9/24/00 10:18:07 AM Pacific Daylight Time From: windydona@saber.net (Dona & Warren) To: SheleeBebo@aol.com (Sheila P. Lookup) Hi Sheila, I can't begin to thank you for the information you sent me on the marriage's of the Fanchers. There were three of our Fancher family on the list you sent me. Uncle James, Aunt Rachel and Warren's mother and father. You indeed filled in a gap and with such speed. I have the information on who the parents were but not when they were married, do they have any marriages before 1906? If they do have I would be looking for Abner Fancher and Rosa Sturzenegger and would have been married abt 1879. Rosa was born in Sonoma Co., so perhaps they could have been married there, we don't really know. I found quite be accident Warren's g-grandparents marriage in San Francisco, in our California State Library in Sacramento. Thanking you again for your prompt action, really do appreciate the help you have given us.
