I am sorry about that. Boy, do I feel stupid... I referred to the wrong area (I know where Corral de Tierra is -- duh!!!). There was an area out by the Gabilan mountains in the area where Roggee Road, Natividad Road, Old Stage Road were... now I can't think of what the area was called! It was rather a more affluent area than that which surrounded it. This was back in the 1950s & 1960s so if anybody knows, it is going to drive me nuts until I think of it! The elementary school serving that area is the Washington Union School Near the base of the Gabilan mountains north of Salinas: On Old Stage Road is the village of Natividad, where Natividad Road intersects with the Old Stage Road. After 1948 those children went to the Santa Rita elementary school. In 1948 and before they went to the Natividad School (no longer exists, and isn't the school in the Salinas Elementary School district named Natividad) The Natividad school district, which was formed about 1863, joined the Santa Rita school district after the end of the 1948 school year. Rogge Road connects between San Juan Grade Road & Natividad Road. On the west end of Rogge Road is the Bolsa Knolls neighborhood. It is also in the Santa Rita elementary school district. Another neighborhood is on San Juan Grade road, north of the Salinas Golf Course, at Hebert Rd. Hebert road connects San Juan Grade Road with Old Stage Road. Also in the Santa Rita elementary school district. Out on Old Stage Road, well past Hebert road, past where the Gabilan creek crosses the Old Stage Road, and where the Mud Creek crosses the Old Stage Road, is another small neighborhood. It is in the Lagunitas Elementary School District. My wife, who grew up in San Benancio Canyon (over the hill from Corral de Terria) and attended the Washington Union school doesn't remember any Matthews.
