    1. [CAMONTER] NY Volunteers Update

    3. Hi Everyone, Since posting my first email, I've started a database of all the names. The original book has no index and it was rough going searching through page after page for individual names. So far I am about halfway through the names. Here's how it stands: Field Officers: 3 Staff Officers: 7 Captains: 9 Lieutenants: 30 Non-commissioned staff: 4 Regimental Band: 21 Non-Com. Officers and Privates: 770 Total members of NY Volunteers: 844 As of the present, I have 410 names in the database, only 434 more to finish. I decided to create the database for my own use, as well as help other researchers. I will find a free location on the web to put all the New York Volunteer information I have accummulated. I searched the web and could not find any good information on the NY Volunteers. It's quite interesting how many former members went into California government, both at the local and state levels. For Jeanne: the founder of "The Sonoma Bulletin" in 1852, Alexander J. COX, was a private in Company C of the New York Volunteers. He was living in Mendocino City in 1882. Hope this helps, Blurry eyed Anita C. Monterey County ------------------------------------ BTW: I'll answer all the lookup requests I received after I finish the database. Sorting the names alphabetically will make lookups much easier.
