    1. [CAMONTER-L] Offical Announcement from SLC
    2. Bonnie Favazza
    3. The Church Headquarters, in Salt Lake City, have finally made the first OFFICIAL announcement about the FamilySearch® Internet Genealogy Service. There has been much speculation & many erronious posts to various places on the Internet about this but now you can read the OFFICIAL announcement on the Church website. This announcement can be viewed at http://lds.org/en/4_News_Update/19990304_FIGS.html . To verify it is an offical LDS website announcement, choose any of the choices from the task bar shown & you can get back to the homepage. There is also a logo displayed with the Church name visible. Memos to Family History Center Directors were sent out about a month ago so we did not know "officially" about this until then either. Also, this does not specify what services will be available nor does the FHC memo. We will just have to wait & see. Bonnie F. fava@budsters.com

    3. Although I know a lot about her children with George W. Crane, died 1868, (my ggf) and I know a little about her children with Jose Maria Sanchez, died 1853, and Dr Henry Sanford, died 1855, I know nothing about the descendants of the last two husbands. Does anyone know of the Sanchez lineage in Monterey and San Benito counties? Or Sanford? The years are from census reports I've studied. 1860 Maria Vicenta Sanchez and Daniel Willson 1860 Refugia Sanchez and Thomas McKnight 1870 Candelaria Sanchez and George Castro 1870 Guadalupe Sanchez and James Roche 1870 Jose Gregorio Sanchez and Margaret Breen And 1870 J. S. Breen and Fidella Sanford I've always felt sorry for Fidella. Her father was murdered at the Washington Hotel in Monterey and as a child she had to live with all those rich Sanchez children who probably spoke more Spanish than English. I know their mother spoke little English. Bill

    3. Yes, Prunedale is in the northern part of Monterey County. Highway 101 bisects the area of rolling hills known as Prunedale just before Salinas. There are at least two newspapers in which the obituary would have appeared--The Monterey County Herald (published in Monterey) and The Californian (published in Salinas). I have old copies of The Herald stored in a shed but it will take me some time before I have a chance to sort through them. I would suggest contacting the newspapers directly since the obituary is a fairly recent one. 3. The weather is just beginning to be spring. The poppies have not yet started to bloom, nor have I seen any lupines yet. The ornamental cherries are going strong, but the wild flowers are just now recovering from the severe frosts we had this year. They're all growing nicely but have not started blooming along highway 68. I just heard today that the Carmel Valley didn't get the same severe frost. I don't know about Soledad. I'll let you know when I start seeing wild flowers along Highway 68. Anita Richard H.
