The embers had died out, and weary San Francisco city employees began clearing the rubble from the streets. Wouldn't you know that the Board of Supervisors wanted City departments to report on what they had had been doing after the earthquake? My favorite is that of A. J. Donavan of the Board of Public Works, who wrote of the first three harrowing days... "We had no time to write reports." No better words can describe the people of San Francisco after April 18, 1906 than these. They were written by Mayor Edward Robeson Taylor and are are inscribed in stone high above the rotunda of the present City Hall. SAN FRANCISCO O glorious city of our hearts that hast been tried and not found wanting... Go thou with like spirit to make the future thine.

Trying to help a friend who is selling property in the King City area. There is a name of a person unknown to them whose name appears on their deed!! I think they knew it from years back whent he property was purchased...tried to contact her...no luck and now that they want to sell it's important. Can anyone recognize the name Delores Joyce Newell Gonzales(z?) Apparently they need some prompt help to solve this sticky problem....the seller is an ill gentlemen in his late '80s who needs to take care of this business just as soon as possible. I'd really like to be able to give them a clue. Thanx so much Barbara....uprooting family trees in Sacramento.

I forwarded this warning earlier to these lists, but have not seen it come back. So url is below. This Dept. of Energy warning concerns Microsoft Outlook Mail. The virus attaches itself to the first 50 people from each of your Outlook address books. The story was printed in the Orange County Register today, Sunday, and may also be in your local paper. I am letting people know that a new County List for Genealogical Discussion & research has been started in California: CASANTAC [Santa Cruz County]. I expect that as one of the smaller county it may not be as active as some of the others in California, but I believe in time it can be very helpful. Subcribing is by sending an e-mail message with the word "subscribe" as the only word in the body of a message with no subject to: (mail mode): "caxxxxxx-l-request@rootsweb.com" (digest mode): "caxxxxxx-d-request@rootsweb.com" Posting queries is by subscribers is to: "caxxxxxx-l@rootsweb.com" where "caxxxxxx" is the list name ["casantac"] I would like to announce the startup of this new list so that people with an interest in genealogy in Santa Cruz County can be made aware of it. Thanks again. Sincerily, Edward, Sr.
