Hello, all - I am looking for the cemetery records of Charles and Sarah Hagan. Her maiden name is Kilbourn. Sarah's obit says she died 3 Dec 1902 and Charles in June 1898. It says both were buried in Bradley, but other family sources say they were buried in San Lucas. (Bradley and San Lucas are both in Monterey Co.) Any information would be very much appreciated. Thank you. - Kristie in Beaverton OR -

Hi Jean, Can you narrow down your post with first names and a range of dates? CA has a death index that can be searched 1905-1995 and a marriage index 1949-86. All other deaths and marriages have to be searched at the county level by visiting the recorder's office or finding books that have been compiled on early vital statistics before 1905. If you would like to have the death index searched 1940-94 for anyone in particular or the marriage index 1960-85 I can help you. Let me know. Colleen Norby -----Original Message----- From: Edward A. Don't know if there is any relation or not but there was a farmer, named PRYOR, in the Chualar & Gonzales area of the Salinas Valley. I think his ranch was between River Road & Hwy 101 between the Chualar turn-off & the Gonzales bridge over the Salinas River. These holdings would have been from at least the 1940s thru 1970s (prob bef 1940 &, I think his sons were farming the land in the 1970s). My dad was a farmer & I can remember he & my uncle talking abt farming the PRYOR land. Wish I could be more specific abt location. If you could make your posting a little more specific it would help a lot! These families migrated from Dunrossness, Shetland Islands (Scotland) circa 1870s to the Monterey area. Mary Ollason married Thomas Harper and had a son reportedly the first "white child" born in Pacific Grove. Some Harpers reportedly owned a Gasoline Station on the Monterey-Carmel Road in the 1940s. There were other family connections in Santa Cruz County with these families. Any information would be appreciated. Will be glad to share information I have. I also have some links to Shetland. The following was posted by Paula <lookingforperson@hotmail.com> on Thu, 11 Nov 1999 on the Monterey County GenConnect Query Forum: - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Surname: Williams, William, Willis, Schneider, Snyder, Snider, Sneider, Schneitcher, Fort Ord Looking for Birth family of Male. Born in Salinas California 1946, birth certificate says March 16, 1946 I dont know if this is anything but these initials J.E.V are on the birth certificate by the registras name. The initials may belong as the registras initials, or the real initials of the child on birth certificate. No other hints or anything. We think the birth father had family in or around Bellflower or Compton or something close, probably LA county. Child was said to be at Grandmothers house and was exchanged in person. There could have been other siblings there or cousins at the grandmothers or family members house. Was also told that birthfathers family may have originally been from Montana and or Billings. Dont know how true this is. Adoptive Mother is very hard to talk to and never found out if this was a state adoption or private adoption. Was told Birth Mother was Russian Jewish and was in the Opera and or a Opera Singer. Her family was supposed to have been from New York. Birth Father was supposed to have been in the Service around that time. Dont know whether he was already out or still in the service. We think it was the Fort Ord base. I think that township was probably Pajaro, which is actually in Santa Cruz County (right on the border of Monterey county), near Watsonville. The Pajaro Valley Historical Society has a website and small museum, and may be able to help you. I've never heard of any mining in the Pajaro Valley, but there was certainly mining not far from there -- Almaden Valley Quicksilver Mine was a major draw from the area, and really took off during and after the gold rush -- quicksilver or mercury was required to process the gold. I believe there was also quite a bit of mining in the Santa Lucias in Monterey County, and in the Coast Range near Santa Cruz, although logging was a bigger business there (as far as I know). All this information is "stuff" I've picked up here and there, and may be only vaguely accurate, but should give you a few clues. Mary
