    1. [CAMONTER] Pacific Grove / Harris family 1900
    2. Hi, I'm new to the list, from Texas, and looking for links, information on Pacific Grove. I've just received a packet of information containing my 2xgreat-grandfather obit, (J. S. Harris) saying he died September 27, 1909, in Pacific Grove, California, while living with his son, Charles Harris. Jonathan S. Harris (J. S.) and wife Susan Hall Harris moved to Pacific Grove in 1901. The son Charles Harris had already established residence, having moved from Highmore, Hyde County, South Dakota. This has been a long search, starting in Onandago and Chautauqua County, New York, then to Earlville, Deleware County, Iowa, to Highmore, Hyde County, South Dakota, and final resting place: Pacific Grove, California. If anyone can share any info in either Pacific Grove &/or the Harris family, please write to me at: GVRichards@aol.com Thank You, Vicki Harris Richardson Texarkana, Texas

    1. [CAMONTER] Berryessa Family in Santa Rita, Monterey County
    2. I found the following article in the Salinas-Index Journal, dated 31 March 1942, and thought it might be of interest. "Aged Couple Narrowly Escape Death in Fire" One of Monterey county's oldest landmarks, the Berryessa home at Santa Rita, was destroyed by fire of unknown origin about 11:30 o'clock Monday night. The 10-room structure was burned to the ground, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred A. Berryessa narrowly escaped with their lives, fleeing in their nightclothes. The house is believed to be about 80 years old, and stood as one of the oldest structures in the Salinas valley. Mr. Berryessa, 66, had lived in the house for 63 years, and told firemen it had been there several years before his time. The fire was discovered by Gus Lafakis, operator of the Shamrock club across 101 highway, when he noticed a reflection in the mirror over the bar. He went outside and found the Berryessa home practically enveloped in flames. Lafakis broke inside and awakened Mr. and Mrs. Berryessa, and they escaped without an opportunity to obtain any clothing or other articles. Rural firemen concentrated their efforts on preventing the fire from spreading to an adjoining motor court. The fire is believed to have started in the sitting room in the front part of the house. The destroyed home formerly was the home of Mrs. Catarina Berryesa, mother of Fred, who died several years ago when more than 100 years old. --Sheila P.

    3. This is a portion of a letter I received from Agnews in 1992. A great aunt had died there in 1936. At that time it was a state hospital for the insane. -------------------- I am in receipt of your request for information on the above client. Agnews Developmental Center retains complete records of a client/resident for a period of seven years after discharge/death. After this time the records are destroyed by shredding. -------------------- I'm sure this policy would apply to all former state hospitals. Bill

He is looking to find his natural birth father. LYLE PALMER. All we know is that he might have been born in 1908. He was from Monterey area and of a very wealthy family. While he was away at college, he came home and had an affair with a woman that was the house maid in thier home. She became preganant with my step father in 1932 and was sent to St. helenia, California (near Napa) to have the child. She was suppose to give it up but did not. All she would tell him is above. On his BC is another child that we did not know about until he got a copy of his BC. Dont know if it is also Lyle Palmer's child or not.
