Hi Kim, Tickets can be purchased the day of the event, but it would be helpful if you could let me know how many are going to be attending from your group. Mona is on emergency leave this week, that is why she has not responded to your inquiry. I am "acting" executive director in her absence. >From the enthusiastic response we have received so far, it looks like it is going to be a fun event for everyone. Boronda descendants from as far away as Alabama, Tennessee, and North Carolina have sent in their reservations. At last count, the total was somewhere around 100. As I said before, if you privately email me your name, address, phone number, and how many is in your party, I will add your reservation to the registration list. See you Saturday, Anita C. Hi Carol, I have some old postcards of Bradley (misplaced at the moment) but as I recall they show the railroad station and the school. You might try contacting the Monterey County Historical Society at mchs@dedot.com and ask if they have any photos of the places you are interested in. Another suggestion would be to contact Pat Hathaway, owner of Pat Hathaway Collections. He has amassed quite a large collection of old photographs of Monterey County. He has a website but I don't recall the URL at the moment. Take care, Anita C. Briggs, Hollister. She passed away in a hospital there yesterday following a brief illness. Grand officers of the lodge will conduct rites in the George L. Grunnagle mortuary, Hollister, at 3 p.m. tomorrow. Members of Copa de Oro NDGW, Hollister, will officiate at memorial rites in that chapel Thursday at 3 p.m. Private inurnment will follow in Hollister. Mrs. Briggs was a member of a pioneer San Benito country family. She was born in Hollister, daughter of the late William and Delia Johnson. Following her graduation from San Jose Normal school she taught for two years in Hollister grammar school and two more in the Enterprise school. She then went into Coast Counties Gas and Electric company offices to work for 15 years. Generous with her gifts, Mrs. Briggs helped to found the Native Daughters children's foundation, contributed the first $100, and has added a like amount each succeeding year. She also was a member of the Copa de Oro circle, N. D. G. W., for 51 years, was grand president of grand parlor N.D.G.W. in 1921; first secretary of the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce, organized the Hollister Women's club in 1914, and was a charter member of the Hollister Business and Professional Woman's club, instituted in 1926 and served three terms as president. She was a past president of Copa de Oro club. She instituted three parlors for the N. D. G. Two scholarships were donated by her to San Benito college, and she gave an electric organ to the Hollister Methodist church. Mary: These are the sources I searched for Delia J. Johnson, and I did not find her: LDS Film 1908730, Item 2; Register of Births and Death 1874 - 1909, San Benito County LDS Film 1952356, Items 2 - 3; Burial permits 1874 - 1900, San Benito County LDS Film 1290905, Vital Records Monterey County; Death Records Volumes 1 - 3, 1887 - 1926. The first part of this film is a death register, organized by year through 1896, in roughly chronological order. It then skips to a register for 1903, followed by mixed certificates and years. Death certificates in fairly chronological order then begin in 1905. LDS Film 1290906, Item 1; Death Register 1873 - 1910, Monterey County. This register has entries up to 1893, and then has few entries up to 1901, then continuing until 1910. The absence of an entry for her does not mean she did not die in either county. I will check the Monterey County marriage records (which my FHC does not have on film) for William's marriage to Mary Ferris Johnson. I believe I found her in CADI yesterday: Mary F. Johnson, spouse W, age 78, date of death 1/16/1935, Monterey County, State File 4013 This was the only Mary Johnson dying in Monterey County in CADI 1905 - 1929 and 1930 - 39. I will put her on my list for a death certificate transcription and obit. Briggs information to follow. --Sheila P.
