Lassen Advocate, Susanville, California 8 December 1904 Death's Call Claire Isabell Sawtelle was born in Fairfield, Maine, February 2, 1859. Her father, Amariah Sawtelle was a major in the Maine militia and an intelligent and influential man. He died in 1881 and soon after Clarie came to Buffalo Meadows, Nevada and made her home with her brother F.A. Sawtelle, until her marriage with Mr. C.C. Norton in March 1884, and since that time has made her home near Buffalo Meadows. She was of a cheerful disposition, loved by all who knew her and was never so happy as when she could so some kind deed. Her great aim in life was to make her husband happy, and to help him all she could. Not enough can be said in her praise. She came to Eagleville four weeks ago and has been ill at her brother's home in town. She was supposed to be getting better until Thanksgiving morning, she became suddenly worse, and passed peacefully away Friday, Nov. 25 at 1:30. Her sister, Mrs. Lanigar, from Susanville came out, but was too late to see her alive. Everything possible was done to relieve her sufferings, but to no avail. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, C.C. Norton, a brother, F.A. Sawtelle, of Eagleville, a sister, Mrs. J.W. Lanigar, of Susanville and two sisters and three brothers in the East.
