I am using FTM 2005. I sure wish that the search procedure was more user programmable. I like to keep the "Name" as close to the birth name as possible. I have found that if you use an AKA, going back to our example "Elizabeth Jones" has a nickname of "Betty", I put "Betty Jones" in the A.K.A. field. When you check the index, you will find two entries: 1) Jones, Elizabeth "Betty Jones"; and 2) Jones, Betty. But what do we do with Elizabeth when she gets married? Do we leave the AKA as is or change it to Betty Jones-Reynolds, Betty Reynolds, etc.??? How would I find "Muffie Parman"? She was Leonore Louise Odbert who married Harold Parman. If you just use "Muffie" in the AKA, you can search the index for her, but if your use "Muffie Odbert", of course, in the index she is shown as Odbert, Muffie. (I keep forgetting her maiden nameā¦) Anyway, more food for though. Hope all of you have a wonderful 4th of July. 100 degree temperatures have arrived here in the Sacramento Valley.
