Mon., April 20, 1987. page 4 Mildred Latour Funeral services will be held at the Stratford Evans Funeral Chapel for Mildred Caroline Conway Latour, 85, a lifetime resident of the area who died Saturday at a Chowchilla convalescent hospital. The Rev. T.J. Flynn of Home Mission Chapel will officiate, and burial will be in Merced District Cemetery. Born Oct 29, 1901 on Cold Springs Ranch in Mariposa County, Mrs. Latour was the granddaughter of pioneer Yosemite trail builder John Conway, who worked with Galen Clark in the 1860s to map out trails still used in Yosemite National Park. Mrs. Latour moved to Merced in 1918 and married in 1825. She worked in the Shaffer Building in the 1920s, and as a bookkeeper in Hartman's Department Store in the 1930s. In 1956, Mrs. Latour and her daughter Marjorie bought the Merced Letter Shop and operated it until retiring in 1975. She was a lifetime member of the Merced-Mariposa Horseman's Association, and was it's secretary for many years. She was also a member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West. She is survived by two sons, George Webber of Merced and Robert Latour of Porterville; a daughter, Marjorie Goncalves of Merced; a half-brother, Sam Conway of Mariposa, and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the funeral home today from noon until 9 p.m. and Tuesday prior to the services. Memorials to the Alzheimer's Disease Support Group, 640 W. 16th St., in Merced, or the Merced Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, P.O. Sat., Dec. 14, 1974. page 9 Harry Latour Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Mission Chapel of Ivers and Alcorn for Harry A. Latour, 74, a lifetime Merced resident and merchant who died Friday in a Fresno hospital. Merced Elks Lodge No. 1240 will conduct services for Mr. Latour who lived at 3330 Harvard St. Burial will be in Merced District Cemetery. Born Feb 9, 1900 in Merced, Mr. Latour worked for Merced Hardware Co., for 42 years prior to opening the Saddlery Shop in 1963. Mr. Latour was a life member of Merced Elks Lodge No. 1240 and was a member of the original Elks band. He was chartered May 26, 1920. A past president of the Merced Old-timers Association, Mr. Latour was also a past president of the Merced-Mariposa Stockhorse Association and a member of the champion Drum and Bugle Corp of the American Legion. Mr. Latour played in many local dance bands from the late 1920's until early 1940's. He is survived by his wife, Mildred; a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Goncalves, Merced, and two sons, George H. Webber, Merced; and Robert Latour, Porterville; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or the donor's favorite charity would be appreciated by the family.
