John Phillips came to California in 1849 and settled near Merced Falls. He returned to Wisconsin and brought back Eliza and his small children in 1852. John Phillips died at Hornitos in 1862. Eliza died around 1896. There is considerable background material on the Phillips clan if you are interested. Unfortunately, I do not have any info on Mr. Hail. WBC
