Hammatt of Livingston, which occurred this morning in San Jose. Mr. Hammatt had been failing in health for some time past; he had made two or three trips to the springs in the hope of finding releif and improvement, but without avail, and had gone to San Jose to remain temporarily under medical treatment there. Robert W. Hammatt was one of the best known and best liked men in Merced county. He was born in Massachusetts 52 years ago, but came to California in 1876, and for a number of years occupied responsible positions in the Wells-Fargo and post offices. In those days Mr. Hammatt and J. H. Simonson and W. M. Sell all roomed together, in old El Capitan hotel, and the strong freindship that bound them together at the time has never been broken. Mr. Simonson stated to the Sun man today that "a better man than Bob Hammatt never lived." About 26 years ago Mr. Hammatt moved to Livingston, where he has since been engaged in the general merchandise business. He leaves a widow and three sons - Robert, Vernon and Hallet. Mr. Hammatt was a member of LeGrange Lodge No. 99, F. & A. M., and of Merced Chapter No. 12, R.A.M., and of the Fresno Lodge of Elks. The funeral will be held in San Jose Thursday morning, under the auspices of the Masonic lodge. ```````````````````` Robert William Hammatt, 1-17-1882 CA - 9-9-1949 Contra Costa Co....Hicks, Vernon B.
