However, she was unable to get water to her property and eventually gave up and moved back to Indian Gulch. Nancy's son Will Houghton attended the Dean Colony Grammer School and related a story about the schoolmaster there, who they had named the "Od Coyote". Nothing more is known of their experiences there. Of course I am interested in anything you may have about Dean Colony. Only recently have I learned the exact location of Dean Colony and hope to one day drive over there to satisfy my curiosity. Ken

Hope died at his home in the Deane Colony on the 29th ultimo." The reference desk at the Merced Library was unable to locate the Deane Colony, but did find that it was founded by B.H. Deane in 1892. I have located a Deane Drain and a Deane Canal at N 37, 14.657' W120, 33.629' about 3 miles south east of the Merced Airport. I do not know if these relate to the colony. Any ideas?

I like it this way..it's a slower process but you don't have to deal with a reader breaking down or film that's unreadable. I can help if you can narrow the dates down to a 5 year range..something that would be like 1920-25....Alma

Many thanks for what you got, and for taking so much time in looking for the rest. I have a question: Does Merced County have an easy way to look up Marriages in the County? The Santa Clara Recorder's Office has computers, by which you can look up records for transcriptions by entering the groom's and bride's surnames... does Merced County have anything similar? I have a number of marriages I need transcriptions of. Regards, Ed
