B. Jones This Afternoon Mrs. W. B. Jones died here Wednesday afternoon about 12 hours after she had undergone a major operation. She had been ill for the past year and had been confined to her home for about two months. Her trouble had been diagnosed as cancer of the stomach and the operation was a last resort effort to aid her. Alida Margaret Jones was born in Holland, March 1, 1878, and came to the United States when she was 13 years of age. The family settled in Wisconsin where she grew to womanhood and 42 years ago she was married to William B. Jones. The family came to California 35 years ago and for the past 30 years have lived in or near Willits. For the first few years they lived on a ranch east of the valley, then at Sherwood and later in Willits. For the past 20 years Mrs. Jones has been connected with restaurants here in various capacities. She was the mother of eight children, two of whom are dead. The living children are: Mrs. Myrtle Lee and Earl Jones of Willits, Mrs. Edna Downing of Fresno, Mrs. Jessie Chapin and Chester Jones of Redding and Mrs. Gladys Jones of Texas, who is now on her way to California. Besides these and her husband there are 12 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Baptist church this afternoon, Rev. Herbert Haywood officiating.
