She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Irish of Anderson Valley. Her father had one of the first sawmills in that valley and one of the first and largest hop fields. Funeral services for Mrs. Hartly were held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, November 5, from the Eversole Mortuary. Interment was in the family plot in the Boonville cemetery. Mrs. Hartly was 81 years old on her last birthday, April 22. She had been in ill health six months at the home her daughter, Mrs. Birdie Field, and children, shared with her. For many years she had been an active worker in the Boonville Methodist church, serving as president of the missionary society for a number of years. The new minister, the Rev. Mobley of the Boonville Methodist church, and the Rev. Glenn Akers of the Boonville Pentecostal church, a friend, officiated at her funeral service. Besides Mrs. Birdie Field, daughters surviving Mrs. Hartly are Mrs. Edna Witherell of Vallejo, Mrs. Nellie Bowen Slater of Los Angeles and Miss Ada Hartly of Boonville. All but Mrs. Slater were able to come to Ukiah. Two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Prather of Cloverdale and Mrs. Ida Ornbaun of Yorkville, and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive. Her husband, Fred Hartly, woodsman, passed away about 1916. Ukiah Republican Press Ukiah, Mendocino Co., CA Wednesday, November 11, 1942 Mrs. Hartly Buried. Funeral services were held in the Boonville Methodist church Thursday for Mrs. Nellie Irish Hartly, 81, who passed away Tuesday morning after a long illness. The services were conducted by Rev. B. H. Mobley, assisted by Rev. G. D. Akers. Mrs. D. V. Presley and Mrs. L. N. Campbell sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and Rev. Akers contributed "Haven of Rest." There were many beautiful floral offerings and the services were attended by a large gathering of sorrowing friends and neighbors. Pallbearers were Edwin Hogan, J. T. Farrer, J. L. Bivans, I. C. Burke, H. J. June and Max Rawles. Mrs. Hartley was born at Malpos, near Manchester, April 22, 1861, and came to this valley and has made this her home since that time. She is survived by four daughters--Mrs. Birdie M. Field and Miss Ada Hartly of Boonville, Mrs. Edna Witherell of Vallejo, and Mrs. Nellie Frances Slater, of Los Angeles; four grandchildren--Sergeant Pomeroy S. Field, of the U. S. Army, Percy Field of Vallejo, Clair Field, ! of San Francisco, and Mrs. J. H. Fuller, of New York; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters--Mrs. J. L. Prather and Mrs. Ida Ornbaun. The sympathy of the community is extended the bereaved family.
