Walsh Called To His Reward The citizens of this quiet town were greatly shocked and grieved on Sunday afternoon, April 15th, 1928 by the announcement of the sudden death of our highly esteemed fellow townsman, Mr. William Joseph Walsh, one of the best known and universally respected stockmen and ranchers of the south coast section. Returning from looking after some sheep he had near town he complained of not feeling well and had laid down to rest, and as he was cold his wife covered him up. A short time after his wife, in another room, was attracted by his heavy breathing and went to him and tried to awaken him, but could not, and so sent for Dr. A.D. Pitts, who, on arrival examined Mr. Walsh and announced that he has passed to the other side. Mr. Walsh was born on the Walsh homestead at Bridgeport, Mendocino County, California , on January 5, 1865, and at the time of his demise was sixty-three years, three months and five days old. He was united in marriage to Miss Lelia Bndette. To this union there were born three children: one daughter and two sons-Clara, Louis, and William. By his kindly and genial disposition, Mr. Walsh made a host of friends, not only in the south coast section, by throughout the county. He was one of a large family and grew to manhood on his father's farm at Bridgeport. He has always been identified with stock raising and farming in the Bridgeport section. In addition to his ranch at Bridgeport and one out toward Eureka Hill, he for many years operated a meat market at Point Arena and was an extensive stock buyer. He leaves to mourn his departure a wife, a daughter, two sons, a grandson, two sisters, three brothers, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was an honored member of the Native Sons of the Golden West. The many beautiful floral offerings, the large assemblage that gathered at the Catholic Church at Point Arena, where Rev. Father Brennan conducted services, and the long line of sorrowing relatives and friends who followed his remains to the cemetery at Cuffey's Cove, where he was laid to rest near the resting place of his parents, gave mute evidence of the high esteem in which Mr. William Joseph Walsh was held by those who knew him intimately and were his daily associates.
