It appears that William E. Wilson, Carl Johnson, and Alfred Olson visited the camp at the hour named and threw a flashlight in one of the tents, where a woman and her husband were sleeping. The woman asked the intruders what they wanted, and receiving the reply screamed. This aroused the husband and he fired at the men with a shot gun, aiming low. The shot took effect in the calf of Wilson's leg. That day the wounded man was taken to the Fort Bragg hospital, but he was so weak from loss of blood that he was unable to stand the amputation of his leg and died Sunday. An inquest was held, and the evidence given by the gypsies was substantially as stated. William E. Wilson was born in Canada, April 25, 1886. He came with his parents to California in 1888, and for a number of years lived at Gualala. He died at Fort Bragg, April 16, 1915, leaving four brothers and six sisters. Deceased was a member of Court Arena, A.O.F., and their ceremony was performed at the grave. The body was brought here Monday and taken to Fish Rock, where services were held in the school house by Rev. B.H. Baker in the presence of a large number of friends and acquaintances. The remains were laid away in the little cemetery here where rests the father and mother. George F. Mitchell, the gypsy who did the shooting, has been held on a charge of murder.
