Brandt Passes at Gualala DIED - At his home in Gualala, Thursday, August 2, 1928, Mr. George W. Brandt, a native of Denmark, aged 88 years and 6 months. The deceased was born in Denmark on February 2, 1840. At the age of 18 years he left his native land and went to sea. In the fall of 1865 he landed in San Francisco, and in the following spring - 1866 - came up the coast and cast his lot with the early pioneers of the south coast. In July, 1867, he was united in marriage with Miss Louisa M. Stockton. To this union there were born seven children, five of whom survive him: W.M. Brandt, Fort Bragg; Mrs. P.H. Tock, Gualala; Mrs. B.C. Brayton, Fort Bragg; A.E. and C.B. Brandt, Gualala. One child passed away in infancy and the youngest son answered the final call eight years ago last December; three years after the passing of the mother, who journeyed to that unknown land in December 1916. In the fall of 1868 he settled in the Gualala section, before the land had been surveyed, and, when the survey was completed and the land ready for settlement he made homestead entry for his chosen tract. Mr. Brandt will be missed by the people of the community that has known him so many years, as by his genial disposition he made a host of friends who join with the bereaved family in mourning the loss of this patriarch of the south coast. Funeral services were held Saturday, Rev. Edw. E. Beach officiating, and were attended by a large number of friends and neighbors. Interment was had at Fish Rock cemetery.
