Surnames: Baker, Ball, Perkins, Philbert, Singley, Tarwater Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/UW.2ADE/1865 Message Board Post: Point Arena Record Point Arena, CA October 17, 1919 Funeral of Claire Ball The funeral of Claire Lyle Ball, under the auspices of the Ancient Order of Foresters, of which he was an honored member, was held Friday afternoon, at the family residence on School Street, and was one of the largest funerals ever held in Point Arena. The day was a beautiful one, and friends, relative, and acquaintances gathered from all points along the coast to pay a last tribute of respect to the worthy dead. Rev. J.W. Robinson conducted the services at the house, and the farewell services of the Order was read at the grave by members of Court Arena Lodge, who marched in a body to the Odd Fellows' cemetery, where the interment was made. The Coast Guards, of which the deceased was a member, acting as pallbearers, and under the command of Captain T. L. Stitt were, A. Neilson, Wm. Nickerson, Hugo Lindblom, George Peterson, Hiram Gillmore, and Emmet Quinn. The services both at the house and grave were very impressive throughout. The choir sang beautifully the Hymns of H! ope, and the remains of a beloved and respected young man, stricken in the springtime of his life, was gently laid to his last rest, and the grave covered with a profusion of handsome floral pieces and beautiful flowers. Claire Lyle Ball, the youngest son of the late J.D. Ball, and Mrs. Lola Ball, was born at Galloway, April 1, 1899, and was 20 years, 6 months, and seven days old at the time of his death, Tuesday, October 7, 1919. Deceased leaves a mother, a brother, Raymond D Ball, in the U.S. Navy, and three sisters - Mrs. Marion Philbert, of Stewart's Point, a twin sister Mrs. Sidney Baker, of Point Arena, and Miss Hazel Ball, of Auburn, all of whom were in attendance at the funeral, and have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their sorrow and bereavement. Relatives in attendance at the funeral from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Perkins and two daughters, Doris and Alpha, of Caspar; Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Tarwater, of Auburn, and Mrs. Henry Singley and son, Herbert, of Orr's Springs. Claire, about two years ago joined the Coast Guard service here, and is discharge from the service was received here the day following his death.
