This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Davis Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/UW.2ADE/1645.1.1.1 Message Board Post: 1st--Let me tell you and all others who might want to use this information from the Ancestry Family Data Collection that this database is a ruse and should not be trusted. the claim that it came from scientific DNA studies is false. ALL the data came from user submitted data and was collected and posted as scientific work so they would have another database to charge users of their system for. There are proven errors in this database and the one you're looking at is another example of one to be added to that list. 2nd--Here is what other searches have uncovered: The record as posted is: Name: Louis Edward Davis Spouse: Ordia Pearl Audrey Lucas Parents: Edward Louis Davis , Jessie Ana Weaver Birth Place: Mayes, Pryor, OK Birth Date: 8 November 1905 Death Place: Hopland, Mendocino, CA Death Date: 20 November 1980 A check of the California Death Index, the Social Security Master Death Index and Mendocino county records show there is no person by this name who died in Mendocino county. By searching the California Death Index with just the dates you posted I have found the following: California Death Index Name: DAVIS, CLARENCE WILLIAM Born: 11/08/1905, OK Mothers maiden name: WEAVER Died: 11/20/1920, 23=MENDOCINO SSN: Left off for privacy Age: 75yrs The SSDI has the following listing: Name: Davis, Clarence Birth: 08 Nov 1905 Death: Nov 1980 Last residence: 95449, Hopland, Mendocino Co., CA Last benefit: None specified SSN: Left off for privacy Issued: Missouri A search of my cemetery database found the following record: Name: Davis, Clarence William Born: 11/08/1905 Died: 11/20/1980 Source: T (tombstone) Cemetery: Hopland Cem. Notes: Husband of Ordia P. Davis A search of my index of vital records published in Mendocino county newspapers found the following: Name: Davis, Clarence William Event: Death Pub date: 11/21/1980 Newspaper: Ukiah Daily Journal I will get a copy of this obit and post it to the Mendocino county board. In the mean time, to all you researchers out there, be very careful of what is posted on the Internet. Not all information, especially compiled information, no matter who posted it, is to be believed. In my opinion, this Ancestry Family Data Collection database should be removed from the Internet, or at the very least, the explanation of what it includes should be changed to show that it came from individuals and not from a DNA study as reported.
