F. Barbee, last Saturday morning, after an illness extending thru several months. Mrs. Montgomery was born in Washington county, Arkansas, December 3, 1824. In her youth she moved with her family to Missouri, from there to Texas, thence back to Missouri again. At the age of seventeen she was married to Andrew Montgomery, and in 1859 the family removed to California. In 1860 they came to Mendocino county, after living a short time in Yolo and Sonoma counties. For several years the family lived on what is now the York place above town, thence to the Charles Luce place south of Ukiah. They then located the stock ranch now owned by Edwards Brothers, near Orrs springs. They then resided in Redwood valley a few years, after which they removed to Ukiah where they have since resided. She was the mother of thirteen children, eight of whom are still living, as follows: Mrs. A. J. Gibson, Mrs. F. M. Burke, J. A. Montgomery, A. J. Montgomery, Mrs. D. M. Lynch, Mrs. A. G. Leeper, T. J. Montgomery and Mrs. J. F. Barbee. The aged husband still survives. The relatives have the sincere condolence of the community in their bereavement. The funeral was from the Christian church Sunday morning. Mrs. Montgomery had been a faithful member of that denomination for more than fifty years. A large number of friends and acquaintances, many of whom had known her during her residence here of nearly half a century, were present to pay their last tribute of respect to the worthy pioneer woman.
