PERKINS DIED SUDDENLY Member of A Pioneer Ukiah Family Is Heart Victim Many were saddened at news reaching here from San Francisco Thursday stating Dr. Mervin L. Perkins had passed away in San Francisco that day. He Loved Ukiah. Never a year went by but Dr. Perkins and family came to Ukiah Memorial day to decorate the graves of Dr. Perkins' pioneer mother and father. Dr. Perkins had a warm spot in his heart for Ukiah and, whenever he could get away from his city duties, motored here to meet old friends. Had Heart Attack. From data, probably obtained from Dr. Perkins' brother, F. L. Perkins, who is employed on The Press-Democrat, Santa Rosa, this life story of Dr. Perkins is obtained from that newspaper: Death struck in the midst of a wedding party at a fashionable San Francisco hotel Thursday when Dr. Mervyn L. Perkins, a brother of Frank L. Perkins of Santa Rosa, and widely known here, succumbed to a heart attack. Of Pioneer Stock. He was a member of the pioneer Perkins family of Ukiah, his grandfather, A. T. Perkins, having taken the first white family of permanent settlers into the Ukiah valley. Perkins street, the main east-west thoroughfare of Ukiah, is named after this pioneer. Leave Wife and Son. Dr. Perkins, a dentist, was a guest at the wedding party honoring Mr. and Mrs. William Homer, who is a member of The Press Democrat editorial department. Dr. Perkins is survived by his widow, Alice, and an 11-year-old son, Morgan Lee. Mrs. Perkins is the former Alice Morgan, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Morgan, of San Francisco. Long A Dentist. Dr. Perkins was 54 years old and a graduate of the University of California Dental College. He began practice in San Francisco in 1914 and throughout his entire professional career had been associated with Dr. Jean Richert. For two decades they conducted offices at Twenty-second and Mission streets, but a few years ago moved to the Flood Building, Market street. Dr. Perkins had gained an extensive reputation as a jaw-operation specialist. Prominent In Masonry. He was a Thirty-second degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of the Knights Templar and Islam Temple of the Shrine, San Francisco. Was Not Ailing. Dr. Perkins had been in excellent health and members of his family had no warning of the fatal attack. Following an examination some time ago, doctors had pronounced him in perfect physical condition. Cousin of Postmaster. Dr. Perkins was a cousin of Postmaster E. P. Thurston, of Ukiah.
