The fiftieth anniversary of the founding the Caspar Baptist Church by the late Rev. J. S. Ross aroused unusual interest and the service brought many from neighboring towns, personal friends of the good man whose memory is so revered by the people of this coast for his good works. Of the pioneer settlers there were present Alexander Jefferson and Edward Freathy who settled at Caspar in the sixties, and one charter member of the church, Mrs. Duncan McKerricher, now of Fort Bragg. The sons and daughters of the late Rev. Ross and their families were present. Mrs. Elizabeth Ross Miller gave a history of the settlement of the town and the founding of the early church which proved most interesting. There were but four Baptists on the coast at the time of the founding of the church--Mrs. Alexander Gordon of Caspar, Mrs. Duncan McKerricher of Cleone. and Mrs. W. H. Kelly of Mendocino. The church was organized with the following charter members: John Mathews, Sarah Mathews, Elena Mathews, James Currie, Mrs. James Currie, Francis Kelly, Mrs. Francis Kelly, Robert Ralston, Annie Gordon Ralston, Alexander Gordon, Christina Gordon, Jessie McKerricher, John Simpson Ross, Jane Ralston Ross. Rev. Ross not only founded the church at Caspar but he was instrumental in organizing churches at Westport, Kibesillah, Fort Bragg and at this place at one time or another he preached at nearly every hamlet on the coast and he was the best known and best loved pastor that ever came to the county. Bundy was killed on the Dos Rios road September 26. He was driving a truck and met an Indian in a wagon. The Indian's team got frightened and backed up, running the rear wheels across the road, and leaving a very narrow space to get by. Bundy attempted to pass, but watched the wagon instead of his own car and got too close to the bank. The bank gave way and the car went over the grade. He was instantly killed it is supposed. The Indian did not go to see. Bundy was dead when first assistance came. Deceased came to Covelo August 1. He drove the freight truck for G. M. Biggar, and was on duty when killed. He served in the army three months during the late war. He held a perfect military record. He was given a military funeral by the American Legion. He was a fine built young man with a clean, noble character and had made many friends while here. During the services the government airplane dropped flowers on the grave. Anker Mortuary at 11 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday) for Florence Ella Willits, member of a longtime prominent family of this city, who passed away at her home Sunday on Wood Street. Rev. George Fletcher will officiate and interment will take place in Little Lake Cemetery. The longtime resident was found dead at her residence by neighbors on Monday morning after friends reported they had not seen her for a day or so. Mrs. Willits, whose family was familiarly linked with the city in pioneer days, apparently suffered a heart attack and expired shortly after she arose Sunday morning, authorities said. She was 85. Her husband, George Willits, who was a descendant of the family for which "Willitsville" was first named, passed away here several years ago. The city was originally named after his uncle, Hiram Willits, who at one time owned most of the land in the northern part of Willits and his holdings extended out into the valley. When the railroad came here his widow disposed of the large holdings for $13,000. Survivors include a sister, Frances Tuck, who at nearly 95 is Willits' oldest living pioneer, and a sister, August Cook, of Oakland; a brother, Theodore Fulwider of Sebastopol; and a foster-son, Lloyd Hennington of Castro Valley.
