Artie's father was Andrew Montgomery and Mother Elizabeth Anderson. I am confused as to Andrew's birth place. In several census records he is either b. in NC or Illinois; Now I read the obit tonight and it's states that it was Missouri. Anyone have a idea which one is correct? I am having a hard time finding parents to him due to this. Also Elizabeth in the 1880 census is listed as divorced and living with her daughter Lucinda P's husband and children. Is this correct? I just started on this branch of the line recently and have many holes to fill in. Can anyone help? I also have a pic of Artie, James Felix, and two of the children that were born at that time. If anyone needs a copy please let me know and I will email it to you. I don't know whether anyone's stumbled upon Elizabeth Andersons folk but her parents were Robert T Anderson (1797 KY - May 4, 1868 McDonald Co., MO) and Hester Elizabeth Morse (1802 AR - Feb 6, 1876). PS. I also found a record for a James Montgomery in the 1860 census that is listed above Andrew Montgomery in Yolo Co., CA. The children to both parents have been born in MS, TX, MS, CA - almost identical to the time frame as if these two were brothers? were traveling to the same places (He is listed as from Illinois). Thanks for any imput. Susan Faught

My great great grandmother was either a full or half-sister of Batchicka. Her name was "Sooney" Youngcault, but she became Nancy Jane Gardner and married here in California. She came across the plains in 1848 with her brother-in-law Caleb and a number of cousins, his and Batchicka's kids. Her mother died when she was young, and she lived with Batchicka until Batchicka died, then she lived with another woman back there until coming over. She was described as being able to speak French and "Indian" well, though I don't know if the Indian was spoken or sign language. Our family stories say she spoke to the local tribal members on the California coast, but I don't know whether this was verbal or sign. She, and Batchicka I believe as well, were only 1/2 Crow as far as we know. They were about 10-15 years apart in age, so I suspect the father that our family has said was a French(Canadian) fur trapper might well have had two wives over this timeframe.

Mendocino Beacon Mendocino, Mendocino Co., CA Saturday, November 30, 1040 SUPERVISOR HALLIDAY DIES IN OAKLAND Never Fully Recovered from Heart Attack Some Time Ago J. H. Halliday, of Point Arena, Supervisor for the Fifth District, passed away Sunday morning. Halliday's illness started with a heart attack which he suffered in Ukiah while attending a meeting of the Board of Supervisors. He was taken to a bay city hospital and with some improvement, was allowed to return to his home. His condition was considered improving, and his death was a surprise to his many friends. Joseph Henry Halliday was born at Point Arena on July 27, 1883. He was the son of the late James C. Halliday and Mrs. Kate Hiatt Halliday, pioneer residents of the Point Arena section, whose family history is so closely woven into the development of the coast country that no chronicle of that particular section of California would be complete without the name of Halliday bulking largely in the details. In 1938 Mr. Halliday was elected to the office of supervisor of the Fifth District, succeeding the veteran supervisor C. E. Gordon. Holding extensive interests in his district, Mr. Halliday was an ideal selection for the post to which he had devoted himself assiduously during his two years in office. He was a member of Clairborne lodge, F. & A. M., Eastern Star, Foresters, and farm organizations, and took an active part in all public affairs. Mr. Halliday is survived by his mother, Mrs. Kate Halliday; his widow, Mrs. Bessie Halliday and the following sons and daughters, George Halliday, Point Arena; Rex Halliday, Alturas; Joe Halliday, San Luis Obispo; Clara Crispin, Manchester; Grace McMillen, Annapolis; Gertrude Farnsworth, Potter Valley; Della Luzzi, Fort Bragg; and Marge Halliday, Oakland.
