Cameron, brother of Mrs. Duren, who visited here last summer, and nephew of Mrs. W. C. Winter, left his father's home in Montana last May to work for a neighboring rancher. He rode horseback and disappeared. His whereabouts remained a mystery until a couple of weeks ago when human bones and clothing were found within a mile of the home of the man Mr. Cameron was to work for. The clothing was identified as belonging to the missing man, but how he met his death is unknown. The horse, saddle or bridle have not been found, which would indicate that the animal was probably stolen after the rider had been murdered. From a Montana paper we learn that the young man was highly respected and without an enemy. He was 22 years of age.

Brandt Passes at Gualala DIED - At his home in Gualala, Thursday, August 2, 1928, Mr. George W. Brandt, a native of Denmark, aged 88 years and 6 months. The deceased was born in Denmark on February 2, 1840. At the age of 18 years he left his native land and went to sea. In the fall of 1865 he landed in San Francisco, and in the following spring - 1866 - came up the coast and cast his lot with the early pioneers of the south coast. In July, 1867, he was united in marriage with Miss Louisa M. Stockton. To this union there were born seven children, five of whom survive him: W.M. Brandt, Fort Bragg; Mrs. P.H. Tock, Gualala; Mrs. B.C. Brayton, Fort Bragg; A.E. and C.B. Brandt, Gualala. One child passed away in infancy and the youngest son answered the final call eight years ago last December; three years after the passing of the mother, who journeyed to that unknown land in December 1916. In the fall of 1868 he settled in the Gualala section, before the land had been surveyed, and, when the survey was completed and the land ready for settlement he made homestead entry for his chosen tract. Mr. Brandt will be missed by the people of the community that has known him so many years, as by his genial disposition he made a host of friends who join with the bereaved family in mourning the loss of this patriarch of the south coast. Funeral services were held Saturday, Rev. Edw. E. Beach officiating, and were attended by a large number of friends and neighbors. Interment was had at Fish Rock cemetery.

Surnames: Bndette, Walsh Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/UW.2ADE/1871 Message Board Post: Point Arena Record Point Arena, CA May 11, 1928 J.W. Walsh Called To His Reward The citizens of this quiet town were greatly shocked and grieved on Sunday afternoon, April 15th, 1928 by the announcement of the sudden death of our highly esteemed fellow townsman, Mr. William Joseph Walsh, one of the best known and universally respected stockmen and ranchers of the south coast section. Returning from looking after some sheep he had near town he complained of not feeling well and had laid down to rest, and as he was cold his wife covered him up. A short time after his wife, in another room, was attracted by his heavy breathing and went to him and tried to awaken him, but could not, and so sent for Dr. A.D. Pitts, who, on arrival examined Mr. Walsh and announced that he has passed to the other side. Mr. Walsh was born on the Walsh homestead at Bridgeport, Mendocino County, California , on January 5, 1865, and at the time of his demise was sixty-three years, three months and five days old. He was united in marriage to Miss Lelia Bndette. To this union there were born three children: one daughter and two sons-Clara, Louis, and William. By his kindly and genial disposition, Mr. Walsh made a host of friends, not only in the south coast section, by throughout the county. He was one of a large family and grew to manhood on his father's farm at Bridgeport. He has always been identified with stock raising and farming in the Bridgeport section. In addition to his ranch at Bridgeport and one out toward Eureka Hill, he for many years operated a meat market at Point Arena and was an extensive stock buyer. He leaves to mourn his departure a wife, a daughter, two sons, a grandson, two sisters, three brothers, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was an honored member of the Native Sons of the Golden West. The many beautiful floral offerings, the large assemblage that gathered at the Catholic Church at Point Arena, where Rev. Father Brennan conducted services, and the long line of sorrowing relatives and friends who followed his remains to the cemetery at Cuffey's Cove, where he was laid to rest near the resting place of his parents, gave mute evidence of the high esteem in which Mr. William Joseph Walsh was held by those who knew him intimately and were his daily associates.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Betts, Burgess, Caughey, Fairbanks, McPhail, Munroe Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/UW.2ADE/1869 Message Board Post: Point Arena Record Point Arena, CA May 11, 1928 "Aunt Mary" Caughey Answers Last Call Mrs. Mary Caughey, one of the oldest and most respected residents of the south coast, passed away at her home on May 1, 1928. Funeral services were conducted at the home on Wednesday by Rev. George Proctor, pastor of the Presbyterian church, of which Mrs. Caughey had been a member for many years. The beautiful surroundings of the "Old Home", protected by the lofty hills of Mal Pass, which she loved so well, was justly befitting the circumstances, for it was here, that no friend or stranger ever went away, feeling that she or he had not been welcome. Many friends gathered for the services and accompanied the remains to the Evergreen Cemetery, where she was laid away among a bower of flowers. Mary Jane Munroe was the daughter of the late William and Grace Ann Munroe, and was born in Kemptville, Canada. Early in the year 1866 she came with her parents to California. In 1868 she moved with them to Manchester, where she has since resided. On November 24, 1869, she was united in marriage to the late John Dugall Caughey, and seven children were born to this union, four of whom survive her: Chester, Leslie, Minnie, and Mrs. Agnes Fairbanks. She was loving mother to Mrs. Grace Betts, a grandson, Leroy Caughey, and two sisters, Mrs. Barbara McPhail of Berekeley and Mrs. Catharene Burgess of San Leandro, and many nephews and nieces are left to mourn her passing. This kindly lady was "Mama Caughey" or "Aunt Mary" to all in the community. She was ever ready to lend a helping hand in time of sickness or sorrow, always thinking of the welfare of neighbors and friends, and a most devoted mother. The many beautiful floral offerings and the love and kindness shown spoke of the high esteem in which this dear lady was held.
