Hi list! I just wanted to point out that this furniture store belonged to Alfred Gilman Clough and that "Fred" was his nickname. He was a County Assessor in Merced. Still searching for information on this line in hopes of connecting it to my Orson Clough>Evelyn Clough in Mariposa/Tulare county. Evelyn Clough was my great grandmother born to Orson Clough and Julia Marsh on October 20, 1860 in place unknown, possibly Stockton, San Joaquin or Three Rivers, Tulare. Searches in both areas have come up empty. It seems Evelyn had two legal fathers at birth. Her parents divorced sometime during the pregnancy and her mother remarried Ira BLOSSOM in September, 1860 in Stockton, San Joaquin, just one month before Evelyn's birth. Evelyn carried her step-father's name throughout her life. However, legal documents show her name as CLOUGH. She lived in Tulare County all her life and was married four times. Her surnames in order of marriage were CAHOON,BUSBY,MENTEER and LONG. She was still living in the 1911 census in Lemon Cove, Tulare. The date, place of death and burial are still a mystery. It is possible she is buried on her old homestead in Three Rivers, Tulare. Evelyn had Clough siblings and they are William Orson b. NY, Fred b. NY. and Ida May (married Bryant) b. IL. I would greatly appreciate conversation with anyone who might be connected to any of these family lines and could help me fill in the gaps. Lineage information follows my signature.
