Hi, Harriet! Thanks for the info! I'm Miwok myself, but I'm interested in compiling names of early (before 1850) California Indians of whatever tribe around Mariposa. I'm hoping by researching these early Indian families to find something that will give me a clue about my ggrandmother North Star, who was said to be a Yosemite Miwok. So far, I haven't found much but maybe something will ring a bell. After extracting the early names from the CA Death Records, I found some of these, including CHEPO, in the Madera GenWeb 1900 Indian Census. Unfortunately, not many Miwoks are listed in that census -- mostly Mono and "Digger." (It should be noted that there isn't any such thing as a "Digger" tribe. That was a derogatory term used by the gold miners.) If you would like to list some of the names from the book, that would be helpful.
