"PRESTON RANCH is west of the road (Raymond Road) and over a century old. Before that it was an Indian campsite. Preston is a prominant and respected name in the County where descendents and relatives are legion. James Preston came to California in 1857 via covered wagon and homesteaded soon thereafter. His grandson Emmet Preston, the present landowner (1976), was born on the ranch in 1884; Emmet's wife, Effie Probasco Preston, was born nearby and they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1962." They did live in the Bass Lake (not there then)/Oakhurst area of Madera Co, lived in Visalia, and also Fresno.
