Mel, We will have to officially declare you our "Detective Par Excellence." Having been in those offices a couple of times I know how difficult it is to find anything. I for one, and I know there are many more, thank you for all the work. The copying is not an easy job either. Hope your eyes are good and stay that way. Unfortunately neither of the COLLINS are mine--darn it. Those Applications for Naturalizations are really interesting. Maybe that is where they fill out more information on exactly where they came from, parents names, etc. I am keeping my fingers crossed. My eyes too with this Madera 1900 Census I am typing. I won't dare say work harder.:>) Harriet -----Original Message----- From: Melanie Kelley [mailto:tkelley@sierratel.com] Sent: Thursday, November 09, 2000 11:58 AM To: CAMARIPO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [CAMARIPO] GOODIES! GOODIES! GOODIES! Just back from the Hall of Records! Short but sweet visit today! Did not find any indebtures yets, but I did find previously unknow ( at least to me ) Declarations of Intentions, Applications for Naturalizations and Divorce records hidden in the fiches titled JUDGEMENT BOOKS tray 7 and listed in the minutes of Transcipt Judgments 1853 to 1935. THESE are the earliest of any Naturalizations that I have seen in the hall of records. It appears this is the way they actually went to court to get the Naturalizations and then the fancy paper is given. I still have to double check to see if any of these are listed on any of the indices that I have already copied. There are no indices to these fiches. We have not talked about Divorce cases much, but these too are just rather hidden in the pages. The whole thing is interesting reading since it may list a murder trial, then a divorce and then a couple of petitions for naturalizations. One more neat find over on the Recorders side of the building. In a fiche title MISC Mariposa Records: MILITA ROLLS starting in 1861. The actual title to the fiche is missing, but handwritten is "Listing of Pensions (or persons ) of Military Duty " It is in Alpha order according to districts with names of disticts stated as HD and NS. 1861 ends on page 53 and then the title for the next section starts with "Persons eligible for duty dated Aug 4, 1862" I copied just a few of the "known to me names" from the 1861 files ALLEN John ALLEN Thomas ALLEN William ALLEN Charles BOGAN, Chas. COLLINS, Jerimiah CATHY, N ( or A ) COLLINS, Geo. CHAPMAN, Kearny? CRIPPEN, MS DICK, Joseph DUNCAN, John DUNCAN, JH STOCKTON, JM SILVA, Manuel de DIVORCE cases Caroline WILSON vs Orlando WISLON divorce granted after jury trial. Few details and no dates.
