    2. Hi Sharon, This post from Ken Tessendorff of 12/14/2000 is pretty much the answer you seek (if you are looking for Naturalization papers - is that what you meant?). --------------- A simple letter or phone call to Alameda should work, but you definitely need the form for the INS. Complete instructions for obtaining naturalization documents from the INS are on the NORCAL Genealogy Index http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~yvonne/norcallib.html and should be followed to the letter for best results. Please note that the request should always be sent directly to the Washington DC office and never to a local office of the INS. It is sometimes a good idea to obtain copies of the documents from both the INS and the county (or NARA as the case may be). Although the documents are supposed to be identical, I obtained documents from both places for one of my ancestors and found them to contain different information. It should also be noted that some counties in California are VERY hard to deal with when trying to get these documents. San Mateo county is a good example. Sometimes the INS is our only option. I really don't know what the situation is in Alameda county, but hope they are more cooperative than some other counties. If it turns out that your ancestor's documents may be at a National Archives branch, there is another article on the NORCAL Genealogy Index http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~yvonne/norcallib.html that covers that place. Ken T. --------------- Guess you have already checked the Ellis Island site for folks arriving there (1892-1924) - I found Don's family there!! http://www.ellisislandrecords.org/ Good luck, RUTH ________________ Ruth Grady Skewis ruth4527@mindspring.com > -----Original Message----- > From: rubyslippers [mailto:rubyslippers@kc.rr.com] > Sent: Saturday, May 26, 2001 12:10 PM > To: CAMARIPO-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [CAMARIPO] Immigration > > > I think I asked this before and never got an answer.
