I would like to share with all of you about what can be found at the new Ellis Island records site. It is THE most exciting genealogical find since I began this madness...er....hobby. ;) I know it is very difficult to get into the site, but it sure is worth it. I'd set the clock for the middle of the night and try then. Once you have found an ancestor and clicked on their name, hit the bar named "ship manifest", after that, if there is a notation above this that says to see "original manifest"...hit that. It is the actual manifest and may be more than one page so you might have to negotiate forward or backward to see it all. It has information that includes their specific residence, birthplace, relatives where they came from and who they are meeting often including a specific address, a physical description, occupation and how much money they had on them. I noticed today that manifests that showed previously are not showing up so do not assume it is not available...try later. It took me several trips to the site to finally find the odd spelling the person at Ellis assigned the relatives. Think phonetic!!!! My great-great grandmother arrived at Ellis in 1907 with a 2 year old. The other 7 children were left behind and came later. I found one ship with 4 of them including babies 11 and 9 a whole year later. I can't even imagine this. She was headed for Neche, North Dakota...and had $2 on her!!!!!! Just wanted to share this. Good Luck! Sharon
