Good morning, Is there someone on the List who has access to a complete listing of cemeteries in Mariposa county? The old State Cemetery Board used to survey the counties regarding what cemeteries existed and who owned/operated them, and that list only contains about 12 cemeteries total. I know there has to be more. Would someone please help me as I am trying to compile accurate listings in preparation for the new California Historic Cemetery Commission. I've been working on many counties since last summer. Thanks so much, Sue Silver El Dorado County Pioneer Cemeteries Commission ssilver1951@jps.net Member, California Historic Cemetery Alliance Dr. Bob LaPerriere (chca@inreach.com) P.S. Many of your historic cemeteries may be thought to be privately owned when they might, in fact, be public by operation of law. Anyone interested in more information, should contact me direct.
Sue, I just found this in The Ahwahneechee's Book. Tom Lupton born 1834, one of the original Yosemite Indians in the Valley in 1851 when it was discovered by the white man, was buried in an Indian cemetery which is at the foot of Lebrado Mountain. He was buried about 1928.
Sue and all.. I cannot find anything on a "Lebrado Mountain" to identify the location of this Indian cemetery. Perhaps a local knows what mountain they are talking about? In the book, he says that it is near Midpines.
