Here is a snipit of her note------------ -My grandmother was Mary Frances Deatsch who married Louis Harvy Grosjean, they lived in Mariposa at the time. Although Louis was born in California, his family were recent immigrants from Alsace at the time. My mother told me that her father was born in California but I have no idea where? My grandmother was raised in White Rock (born there too, I think). Louis mother's maiden name was Mary Sousa. I remember my mother specifically telling me that her name was spelled with an "s" instead of "z"... I recall that because I questioned it when she told me how the family spelled their name because I had never heard of that name spelled with anything other than a "z" prior to that. I also recall my mother telling me that her grandmother, Mary Sousa was a very small, petite, blonde lady. She was born in the Azores and immigrated with her parents -- traveled across country in covered wagon and settled in Mariposa. I know Mary Sousa married a Grosjean (don't know first name). I know that Louis had a brother by the name of John Charles Grosjean and that he held some sort of an office in the Mariposa County, and that he was well liked and highly respected in the community. ------------------------- Oh boy - do we have information on these families!
