GREETINGS...to all who may have a stake in the future of California's historic cemeteries, My name is Sue Silver, and I am the president of the El Dorado County Pioneer Cemeteries Commission, a non-profit public benefit corporation. Our goal is for the preservation, protection and restoration of our county's historic cemeteries. This is to advise you that Assemblymember Anthony Pescetti has introduced Assembly Bill 1368 (AB 1368) to establish the California Historic Cemetery Commission. To read the Bill, go to: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/bill/asm/ab_1351-1400/ab_1368_bill_20010223_in troduced.html (If this link fails, go to the California State Assembly web site and click on Legislation. At the next screen, search on 1368, and follow links from there.) Assemblymember Pescetti introduced and ushered this same bill (as AB 1779) through the last session of the legislature where it was extremely well received by members of both houses of the Legislature. Unfortunately, Governor Gray Davis vetoed in the last hours of the session. We are hopeful that this year we will see it's enactment. I am asking for your support in helping to pass this legislation. This is a Bill that will benefit anyone who has any ancestors buried anywhere in any historic California cemetery. It is a way and means to document the historic cemeteries state wide, and to build a registry of those places so that they may be kept from harms way. California has had a dismal history when it comes to its treatment of cemeteries. From the earliest years of statehood, cemeteries were being relocated to accomodate mining activities. In the 1950's, we saw a movement of cemeteries to accomodate dams and reservoirs. In the latter part of the 20th Century, we began to see them uprooted for highways and residential developments. At this rate, the historic cemeteries of the communities founded by our ancestors, similar to some of the now-gone towns and villages, will fade from the face of our historic landscape. And along with them, the humanity and history they represent. I urge you to contact Assemblymember Pescetti to thank him for introducing this Bill and to lend your voice of support. Email him at: anthony.pescetti@asm.ca.gov or write to him at: Honorable Anthony Pescetti California State Assembly State Capitol, Room 2130 Sacramento, CA 95814 or call him at: (916) 319-2010 BE SURE TO INCLUDE YOUR MAILING ADDRESS ON ALL CORRESPONDENCE TO LEGISLATORS. You might wish to copy Governor Gray Davis on your email, and his address is: governor@governor.ca.gov Please help find, save and preserve our state's historic cemeteries and grave yards. They are the first textbooks of the people who lived and died in California. Thank you in advance for your concern and support. If you can help identify the location of obscure or "left behind" cemeteries in your county, please let me know. Hello listers, I've just received this information regarding the archives. "All I can tell you is that the archives will be back up when they are ready. No estimate on when that might be." WorldConnect boads search isn't working either and here is the comment about that: "WorldConnect is being rebooted and that should fix the problem with the searches. " So folks, patience while things are being put back together. Best Regards, Sharon CAMARIPO List step-mom
I did it! I created a .htm with a caption for pictures. Scan those family Miwok photos and email to me for the site!!!! http://home.earthlink.net/~syvonne/Howard.htm Joan..I MAY still have some you sent, do I have permission to put them on the site, if I do?
I have wanted to scan this picture for a long time. It is too large for my site but until I figure out how I am going to display pictures, you can view it for now. It is a picture kindly sent by Roena Wilson of Jim and Julie Howard cir 1905-06. You can currently see it at: http://home.earthlink.net/~syvonne/Howard.jpg Once I figure out how I am going to do these, they will be accessed off the Picture Gallery section of the main page. Sharon

SPEAKING of Hornitos, I missed seeing you Chriss, and Harriet, and anyone else who may have attended- As usual the food was great and the weather held (no rain). I was there at 3:00 and bounced from the park to Maunuelas-! We got in line at 4:00 and visited with some of the old families. It turns out that the woman standing in line behind me was born in our old home in Midpines- Bear Creek. She went to the Bear Creek school which was also on the same property! Needless to say we are planning a wonderful get together at the property- and I am sure to see wonderful old pictures and hear some great stories........ Instead of selling T Shirt this year, the Patrons Club was selling copies of old photos! and note cards with photos----- What a great idea. I was standing next to a woman who was looking at the photos and she got so excited to see a picture of her father - part of the crew at the Mount Gaines Mine- she went to the old Quartzburg school and the school at the Mount Gaines Mine-= she had come all the way from Pinole to attend the dinner- it was certainly a wonderful time for her! The CASTAGNETTO reunion sounds like a wonderful idea Don-! Remember, if anyone wants to combine a research trip to the History Center you need to make a reservation ahead of time. I can help you with that if you like. I really wish I could answer this for you Anne. I have both the Taylor books and I am sorry to say I do not think the information in them are 100% reliable. I can tell you that Lucy Hite had sisters Maressa and Marie Wilson. Mary Griswold, who's mother is Mary Ann, was a niece of Lucy Hite. I think , without checking, this should be the Mary Ann who is a sister to Maria Yerdies. I believe these 3 sisters share a common parentage with Maria and Mary Ann...perhaps not the parent that leads to Tenaya..I am not sure. Mary, who lived with John Hite before Lucy and he married, was either a cousin or sister. My personal fantasy is to get the transcript of the divorce trials. I would hope if I ever get these transcripts to know more about Lucy and other people than we can hope for. Hi List, May I pls have some suggestions. We are planning a CASTAGNETTO clan reunion on 28 April at the Hornitos Park. I expect about 30-40 attendees. Is there someone I can contact about reserving space in the park? Thank you for your help! Don
As I promised there are new Genealogy Pages to replace the previous databank. I have arranged the pages this time by Surname. Hope you find this helpful. I have already updated Pico so you may search by any name or first name! I have spent the past week examining and merging all the information on the Miwok families I have accumulated so far. You might want to take a look at what I have put up under Genealogy data: http://home.earthlink.net/~syvonne/Miwok.html Please note... before I get 40 emails saying "So and so isn't there"...I have only put people on the pages who were born more than 100 years ago. In other words, If a family started having children in 1898 and had children born up to 1913...you will only find the children born up to 1901 on the pages. In many cases I have genealogy data and lineage past 1901 but I will not post it on the net. If you contact me privately via email, I would be happy to share. Let me know what you think...unless you don't like it...then keep it to yourself LOLOLOL..just kidding! Sharon
Does anyone know when Lucy Hite was born? Her obit indicates she was born about 1843 but the 1900 census indicates she was born about 1851. Who were her parents? HITE, Lucy 49 yrs, Married 30 years, 2 children - 1 living This is a wonderful resource. Thank you Sharon.
