Hi List Buddies, I'll bet that you all will be happy when this reunion is over so I will stop bugging you!!! hehehehe Thank you for the lead to the Mariposa Co Parks and Rec Dept; I have reserved the Hornitos Park for Saturday, 21 April. I did not reserve the hall so pls keep your fingers crossed for good weather for us. And thank you for putting me in contact with the property owner where the Bear Valley Cemetery is located. We have permission to visit the CASTAGNETTO grave site. Now, my next question: We would really appreciate if we could get some publicity in the Mariposa newspaper to announce our reunion. Gosh, I mean, thanks to this list, Carolyn's web page, William's postings, and many others, we have successfully rejoined two branches of the CASTAGNETTO tree who have not had contact in living memory (since 1907)! We have approx 60 people converging on the park from as far south as San Diego (me) and as far north as Redding. I think it is pretty remarkable! Can someone pls post (or email me off list) a name and telephone number of whom I can contact to publicize our gathering? Thank you again for all your help! Don

I saw a listing of Mariposa Schools that was pulled from a file at the History Center- it was undated, handtyped, and offered no verification or references for the list of schools mentioned. Listed among the schools that are familiar to me was this school entry: ORANGE- Below the DAY Ranch in Cathey's Valley- Barbara, or anyone else have anything on this school??? I don't recall seeing this "Orange School" mentioned before. Thanks, Carolyn

So, want to join in and provide some place names or mines that do not appear in this listing>? http://cagenweb.com/mariposa/mines.htm Please also give your reference source if you have it--and I will add them to the list...... Have fun! Carolyn
Hi Folks= a researcher has found the site below- he is interested in learning more about the SNEDEGER name in Mariposa- Anyone have anything? Thanks, Carolyn -------------- Snedeger Place# http://cagenweb.com/mariposa/mines.htm The reference to this site is that I found it in an old Mariposa newspaper article- Mariposa Gazette Name Contest, 1928 # It appears to be a settlement area of a family by the name of Snedeger ,
Carolyn, Thanks for bringing this up. It is amazing that the descendants of these two were communicating on the Internet 160 years later. It is my greatest hope that JR, Bob, and DC are sitting up in heavan right now amazed at the same thing. Wouldnt it be nice to hear their conversations?

I am reading a census in Ohio...looking for my husband's family. I find this entry: Robert b. 7/1869... 97 years old ...married 18 years wife: Meatilla b. 9/1869 ..96 years old...5 children, 4 living Then it lists the four children, aged 18 yrs old down to 1 yrs old I'm scratching my head at the above and then all of a sudden I see the humor exactly like that of my husband. It would be just like him after a census taker asked for his birthdate to respond with "how old" as 97 years old. As in..."Can't you do the math, dummy?" The funny thing is that the census taker in obvious totally robot fashion recorded the ages of 97 and 96 without seeing the humor. Sharon
Wish I could afford this one. http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1120723268
Kay Kuser came by today and brought updated info on descendants of William Snelling, Benjamin's son who was murdered in Snelling in 1857. She picked up a couple of copies of my new Snelling edition, one for her father to read before they make the trip out there. I'm sure they'll be in touch for more talk after they've read them. Pam, where do you fit into this--are you another Snelling or a helpful bystander. Either way, thanks, and if a Snelling, let me hear from you. Carolyn--Hi. We stopped by the Snelling library last summer and a lady was there preparing it for limited opening times. I left a copy of the earlier Snelling edition with them. They seemed to have some material on the town's history, but I don't think there is a whole lot available. I did find some mention of it various places and included them in the book. Cheers, Jim Arlington, Texas
