    1. [CAMARIPO] FIRE STATUS-
    2. Carolyn Feroben
    3. I often hear from you folks when the news tells of fire in Mariposa County-thanks for your concern............ Just to let you know that around the town area of Mariposa , south county, there is no fire at this time. However, the Coulterville- Greeley Hill is of great concern............. This fire is called the Creek Fire-------and I am very worried about that area. Several homes have been lost, MANY are threatened..........evacuations are underway......... You can check on what is going on through out the state of California via this site: http://www.fire.ca.gov/cdf_incidents/index.htm - it lists the current status of all the large fires in the state. We have friends with their special belongings packed in Mountain Ranch-the path of the Leonard Fire near San Andreas. There is the possibility of them getting evacuated today........... This is going to be a very stressful next few days ........and you will note with disgust that the Creek fire is listed as an arson fire............and that this act has put many folks in danger of loosing their homes and possibly their lives.............. 3. Evelyn- you are so right! And thank you Evelyn for prompting us to learn more about GAINES and the art of mining research here in Mariposa- Glad we helped the Great State of Texas:-)! We really are a team , both on this list and on the website. Many of us have been together since 1997- working to help each other, newlistmembers, and just getting information out there for those that will come along down the road one day- Folks visiting the Mariiposa GenWeb site have written me telling me what a wonderful resource the researchers of Mariposa County are by providing their contributions of data and assistance. Now is a good time for me to thank you all again, and tell you that one of our special folks- listmom, Sharon Dulcich, will be assisting me with the website......! She will be our Co-coordinator(:-) for Mariposa County GenWeb. Most of you know Sharon has been here for us performing listmom duties for many months now, keeping us rolling along very nicely. Now she will be joining me in the admin of the website! We have plans to make and announcements will be made about special additions and projects to enhance the website! I am very excited about the possibilities of what we can do- and as always we will welcome your suggestions and contributions of material and ideas for the site................. Sharon , enjoy your vaction.....cuz we are going to be really busy as we have fun during the next few months brining more Mariposa History and Genealogy to the Mariposa GenWeb! 1. [CAMARIPO] GAINES---MINING DOCS FOUND
    2. Carolyn Feroben
    3. Evelyn, Steve Miller, listmember, volunteer ! has found for you 10 pages of mining related documents pertaining to GAINES. The first one is dated 1852====== In brief it says--Samuel I. COX, James GAINES, Andrew GROVE, as a company with equal rights and privileges have discovered on the 7th day of Dec 1850 some quaretz veins of Gold Bearing Quartz compromising each other at right angles about 400 yards east of Bear Breek and two miles South East of COXes Ranch which we claim according to the laws of this state and the laws of the Mariposa Counvention held Quartzburg on the 15th day of June 1850! Pretty exciting stuff!------ Steve handed these to me when I met him for the first time in Mariposa Library last week! What a guy! These records are in the Recorders office.......so folks, when you come to Mariposa be sure you have time on a weekday to spend in the recorders office ! Still have the word out to local historian that we are seeking information on the burials site of GAINES................... I'll be in touch privately for your snail mail address. Carolyn

    2. Who would have thought that palms could grow in Mariposa county? Does anyone know what happened to the Danari Farm? I personally believe that many more things we consider subtropical down here in San Diego county could be grown in town. Anyone know if loquats, pomegranates, Mandarin oranges have been tried? How about PawPaw?
