I haven't tried using the scanner and OCR program to put things into the FTM program. I have OmniPage Pro 8.0 and I wasn't impressed with the % of accuracy it produced. I plan to upgrade my FTM 5.0, OmniPage Pro 8.0 and some other programs after the first of the year (Y2K jitters) I have been 2 years trying to get my Social Security Disability and finally had a hearing this month and won. It will be a few months before I can get some dough to upgrade with, but I can spend some time each day poking some data in. I don't sit for long periods but I type several times each day... plodding along. Query! Does the FTM version you are using allow you to generate a GEDCOM file with a range from one individual down 5 or 6 generations? The version 5.0 I have dumps the whole 2000+ names into the GEDCOM file. I can't believe they did that! >From my earlier email: Well my FTM files have been created from a PAF transfer a few years ago. Before I knew enough about PAF I had merged in some files found on a CD at the Ft. Wayne (Allen County) Indiana Library. So after the two transfers of data I have some entries have reference numbers like 3, 5, 22, and some have numbers like 1RL2-QJ, 9GF9-DW most have no reference numbers at all since the default of the FTM version was to be none. I have not had much luck in merging files into my FTM program. Climbing up the learning curve. I have carried many of the names dumped into my file from the CD at Ft. Wayne and with no source references I don't think many folks would like that merged into a file with well sourced data. I have removed all the reference numbers/ letters and now have to find a way to trim the good data from the rubbish data. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, November 12, 1999 11:49 AM Subject: Re: [CALVERT-L] Calvert Repository > > Gary writes, > > >Well greetings again. > >Have you started your first 6 generations yet? > > Gary, > > THANKS, really needed some encouragement.
