    1. [CALVERT-L] William CALVERT (1775-1823)>Ireland?>VA>Tenn> Ala
    2. Carolyn Earle Billingsley
    3. I'm looking for information on William CALVERT. He was born about 1775 in Virginia (possibly Ireland?) According to John Henry Brown, Indian Wars and Pioneers of Texas (Austin, Tex.: L. E. Daniel, 1880; repr., Easley, S.C.: Southern Historical Press, 1978), 638-639, William's father--said by some to be Thomas CALVERT--immigrated to Winchester (now Frederick County), Virginia, from Ireland, and later moved to Tennessee. William's mother's family was said to be English. He and his family were Scotch-Irish Cumberland Presbyterians. William CALVERT had a sister Jane CALVERT, born ca 1784 (Ireland or Virginia), who married James Jones HILL in 1809 in Maury County, Tennessee; Jane and James HILL were in Bedford County, Tennessee; came to Tuscaloosa/Bibb County, Alabama ca 1817. Jane (CALVERT) HILL died in Bibb County, Tennessee, in 1850 William CALVERT married Lucy ROGERS, ca 1800, in Tennessee, but I don't know where. Various sources hint that William CALVERT was possibly in Hawkins County or Sevier County, Tennessee, then possibly Bedford County, Tennessee, before moving to Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. William and Lucy's Children: 1. Robert CALVERT, who was born in 9 February 1802, near Wartrace, Tennessee (Bedford County?--or Hawkins County or Sevier County, Tennessee?); he married Mary "Polly" KEESEE in 1823 in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama; moved to Saline County, Arkansas ca 1836; to Robertson County, Texas, ca 1852; and died in Robertson County, Texas, of yellow fever, in 1867. 2. Jane "Gencey" Calvert, b. 18 March 1804, in Tennessee; m. George HILL in 1822; she died 11 March 1855, in Talledaga County, Alabama. George HILL served during the War of 1812 in the same unit with Edward CALVERT, Young CALVIT, Mathew HUBBERT, and Benjamin HUBBERT. 3. Mary "Polly" CALVERT, b. 26 June 1806, Tennessee; m. Milton KEESEE, 1823 in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama; moved to Saline County, Arkansas, ca 1836; to Union County, Arkansas, ca. 1842; to Robertson County, Texas, ca 1852; she d. in Robertson County, Texas in 1873. 4. James CALVERT: b. 11 December 1808, Tennessee; moved to Bibb County, Alabama, when he was young, ca 1813; m. Margaret IVY in 1829, in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama; moved to Talledega County, Alabama, ca 1828; moved to Clay County, Mississippi, ca 1836; he died in Noxubee County, Mississippi in 1878. 5. William CALVERT: b. ca 1810-1823, based on census; nothing more known, but there was a William CALVERT in Walker County, Alabama in 1830. He was a minor heir of William CALVERT, and the final settlement of his guardianship account was in 1830--could that mean he turned 21? or 18? His brother Robert CALVERT was his guardian. 6. Nancy CALVERT: b. 22 January 1811, Tennessee; m. Robert HILL (her first cousin) 1827, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama; she died in Bibb County, Alabama, in 1888, buried Hill Cemetery, near Vance. 7. Paulina CALVERT: b. 28 November 1816, HILL's Settlement, Bibb County, Alabama.; m. Samuel Washington QUARLES in 1834, in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama; she died 1891, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. Her brother-in-law Milton KEESEE was her guardian after the death of her father in 1823, when she was a minor. William CALVERT died 23 August 1823 in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama--there are some probate files concerning his minor heirs. His widow, Lucy (ROGERS) CALVERT remarried in 1825, in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, to James MOORE. Where was William CALVERT in Tennessee before he came to Alabama ca 1813? Where did he and Lucy marry? Was his father Robert and, if so, which one? Also--there was an Edward CALVERT, supposedly born in Ireland, according to a biography of his grandson, but 1850 census says he was born in Tennessee; born ca 1788; and came to American when he was 12 years old (according to biography of grandson); he married (1) NANCY CANTERBERRY. Edward CALVERT was also in Saline County (now Grant), Arkansas when the above CALVERTs were there, moved with them to Robertson County, Texas, where he died in 1867. Edward CALVERT was known to be related to the above CALVERTs. HOW were they related? Naturally, like every other Calvert in American, all lines claim to be descended from Lord Baltimore. I'll be happy if that proves to be true someday, but right now I'm lost in Tennessee. Any information appreciated. Carolyn
