Wasn't there a discussion on the list about DNA testing to determine how the various Calvert families inter-relate? Is anyone interested in this? Kay Sherrill says that her father's family began the process. It seems to have helped them find which sections of the family are related and how. She wanted to know if the Calverts have considered testing. It sounds like a good idea, but how do you go about it? Jim
There are a number of companies that offer this service. The price per person is between $99-$150 per participant for groups of 5 or 6 I believe. This is only for male descendants. Look in the shop at ancestry.com for more information. I am interested in DNA testing also. I gave a presentation to my local genealogical society on the use of Y-chr testing in genealogy. There are 2 levels of testing: 12-marker test and 25-marker test. There are discounts for group testing. I think a minimum of 6 samples is required. The 12-marker test is used to determine if we are related. The 25-marker test includes more markers to further refine those who are related (i.e., the different branches that are related).
