I've just got back to continuing with my research and thought I'd do a general broadcast query. I'm researching a line of Calverts that immigrated from County Down to S.W. Ontario in 1875. From what my Great Aunt Helen Calvert remembers of her Grandparents, there were 3 Calvert brothers. The one's I know of are John Calvert b. Dec. 29 1852 b. N. Ireland [m. to Mary Jane Nesbitt b. Feb. 3 1853 N. Ireland] & David William Calvert b. Aug 12 1848 [m . Mary Jane Quinn b. Jan. 25 1850 Ont?]. John & David Calvert. From the research I've done I've noticed that there are quite a number of John & David Calverts in North America from County Down. My GGreat Grandparents, John and Mary, came over with 3 of their 6 children. They first settled in E. Nissori, Oxford Co. Ontario near Lakeside. David W. and Mary Jane are buried at Christ Church Anglican in Lakeside with 5 of their young ones who died young. There was a 3rd brother, I don't know his name though. My Aunt Helen only remembers that he went to the Chicago area. My GGreat Grandparents 1st son was named David William b. Nov. 5 1873...and is recorded as being born in Trandragee, Bleary, Near Belfast, County Down N. Ireland. I have to assume the family all originated from this area as quite a few Calverts can be found there. David W. married Annie Jane Dundas and they bought a farm at the N. Oxford/Middlesex county line, near Banner. My GGreat Grandparents, also bought a farm in N.Oxford in Banner, but later bought the Sutherland Farm in Middlesex that is located in Dorchester. My family still owns this house. The other bit of information I have is that on the 1881 Census, my GGreat Uncle David William had a William living with him who was a widower, age 74. Again, I assume this William must be either a father to David & John, or maybe an elderly Uncle. My GGreat Grandmother, Mary Jane Nesbitt, had a sister here as well - Margaret "Maggie" Nesbitt, who married a McDougal. I know very little about her other then she died quite poor, I believe, and was buried in the Calvert plot in Dorchester Union Cemetery.
